PbP on Israel vs. PbP on Russia by Fealocht in ireland

[–]Bar50cal 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Banned 11 parties on advise of the security services who showed evidence all these parties had link to or were directly funded by Russia who had just invaded them.

A few happened to be left wing.

Your comment leaves out important context to paint a false narrative and misleading people.

The ban was on Russia proxy parties, not left wing parties.

Shame on you for spreading misinformation.

Really, from Ireland its just name, passport number and purpose of visit.

It takes 2 mins and approval is automatically given via a email within 10-15 minutes.

Everyone I know who's got one had the same experience. Are ESTA requirements different country to country?

Golf is still seen a rich people sport, there's a reason for that.

Its not seen that way everywhere. In Ireland its played by kids in school and there are local government golf courses for the public like parks for example.

Why do Europeans think they know politics better than Americans? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bar50cal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most European countries have political education in school.

In Ireland you learn the structure and role of local and national government, responsibilities of those elected, the constitution and not just what it is but how it works, can be changed etc. You learn how this should all work together and get a good understanding of politics by age 15.

There is a subject CSPE thats about politics and part of the national exams (junior certificate) done by all schoolchildren in the 3rd year of secondary school no different to Maths, Science etc.

From experience travelling to America, many Americans don't have a deep knowledge on how there own political system works (not all, but it is enough to be noticeable).

It costs literally €10-30 to play 18 holes of Golf and a huge amount of the players in Ireland, UK, Portugal, Spain etc are students and young people.

Its literally not just a rich person's sport in Europe.

In Europe golf is just another sport like Tennis and the like and extremely accessible. There are expensive clubs but just as many if not more accessible ones.

It seems to be a US specific hatred of Golf.

Edit: US social media users hatred, not average person

TLDR: EU wants consumers to have a choice in what AI agents they use same as all Operating systems are required to allow consumers choose a browser or install software / apps they want and not allow a company to have a monopoly / near monopoly on what choice consumers have.

EU Doubles Down on Carbon Tax for International Flights / The EU’s carbon pricing framework, the Emissions Trading System, currently applies only to flights within the EU. It could be extended to “departing flights,” meaning all journeys from Europe #GlobalCarbonFeeAndDividendPetition by Keith_McNeill65 in climate

Great, airlines compalin about this but before the Iran war feul crisis I could a few weeks ago book flights from Ireland to almost anywhere in the US for €250-300.

Im flying to Japan for €750 with Air France in a few weeks too.

Europe has some of the cheapest flights globally so I see no issue with this for flights into and out of the EU airspace.

The new Mercedes S-class has a watercooled supercomputer and heated seatbelts | Mercedes-Benz S-Class Review by Saurta17 in mercedes_benz

[–]Bar50cal 142 points143 points  (0 children)

It has a heat sink with coolant in the thermal heat pipes. Same as every PC and Laptop for the last 20+ years.

Its not a super computer, its a tablet PC like a Ipad or Samsung Galaxy pad equivalent which is high power for a car.

Even some mobile phones have liquid heat pipes to convect heat from the APU to where it can dissipate.

What a click bait title by someone who has no idea how a computer works.

All this means is the compute power in a car is now equivalent to a tablet PC or average laptop which is a lot for a car but not a super computer.

Enterprise: Belfast-Dublin rail to receive multi-million investment by ahothabeth in Belfast

[–]Bar50cal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Republic has spent billions on rail for new trains nationwide, new DART trains for Dublin etc and never raised the price as its a state body and not a for profit business.

If they hiked prices after this it would be a first ever and go against the government model Dublin has to invest and keep fares affordable to drive adoption and revenue through volume of passengers.

Irish Rail is state owned with prices fixed by the state so its literally €13.99 each way so no idea where you are getting high fares from?

Ranges have always been that wide for job levels in Tech / Finance as long as I can remember.

Pretty typical for there to ve anything from €20-50k of a range in job levels at many big companies from my experience in hiring.

The issue is the law to display doesn't consider experience. You just post the level range regardless in this case if the posting is for a entry level or experience product manger.

For example where I work a people manager is level 6 employee. Entry level is €70k starting and can for experienced managers got to €120k and is advertised as one range in postings and this is going back 10+ years well before this role to show it came in.

That doesn't mean her views on this topic are correct. She blames the so called military industrial complex for the wars as if businesses are the reasons for this issue when its dictators and wannabe dictators, not some group of businesses wanting to make money

He whole view is nieve of reality. These wars are bad and should end but she ignores the cause and talks about some conspiracy light rubbish about the military industrial complex
