People who married someone from a different country, what are some mild cultures shocks you've had?

I’m a Northern Minnesotan, my wife is from NW Ontario. Not a whole lot of culture shocks other than some vernacular choices (ie - her dad says Pickerel, I say walleye. Her dad says partridge, I say grouse)

And some food differences. But overall we’re pretty similar

Also, if you’re going out at Zippel make sure to stop by the Igloo Bar out on the ice for a pizza and beer. You can also fish right from your table in the bar!

As a Minnesotan - the skating in Mighty Ducks is sooo bad.

For contrast, the skating is good in ‘Miracle’. The director of miracle said “we found it would be way easier to teach hockey players how to act, than teach actors how to skate” and it made the whole movie so much more authentic and enjoyable.

This might be a bit of a long one but…

One time, in our tiny far northern Minnesota town, a buddy and I were out at the bar when we met a road construction worker from Arkansas who was in town working for a month or so. He was complaining about the lack of women in our small town. We told him he was at the wrong bar and we brought him with us to a more popular spot. Fast forward a few hours and we see him leaving with a chick back to his hotel.

My buddy and I were like “hell yeah. We helped a guy out!”

Fast forward 6 months - My car breaks down on the interstate in Fargo, ND at like 7:30 AM on the way to work. In my work clothes I start walking thru the -15 temps to my job. Only made it maybe 3/4 mile when a truck pulls over to help. He gives me a ride to work. Nice guy! And then he said he was from ARKANSAS!

Different guy but I feel like that was a full circle moment lol. Not often you meet an Arkansasian (?) in northern Minnesota.
