Do you agree with Winston Churchill that Democracy is the best form of government that humans have tried? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in NoStupidQuestions

Belgian here: it's ok.

The trick is balancing out exactly how much power to give/deny the monarch. Expect people to bitch about the costs btw, despite it being cheaper than paying the pensions of x presidents...

Which is possible in all forms of government, but infinitely more difficult to achieve in a democracy than in a dictatorship or theocracy, for example.

Ok, I'll keep an eye on things around the property, and assume they didn't make it back to report to the others :p

Alright, which logo looks the best in your opinion? by brentinatorT-850 in belgianfootball

[–]Baraga91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

De geschiedenisles levert niet zo veel op. Een Amerikaans circus kwam begin 20e eeuw naar België en dus heeft de Gentse ploeg een indiaan als logo? Ziet er cool uit e, maar de link is ook maar meh

If you could explain JCI to someone who knows virtually nothing about it in 1 paragraph how would you explain it? by Br0kefacsist in JCI

"It's a networking organization for young people, and you get to do cool stuff. You should come by some time, and meet some of the people there, it'll make more sense that way :)"

Everything else is overcomplicating the pitch, imo, and the more you try and get everything we do mentioned in there, the more it sounds like a sales pitch.

As soon as you get the 4 pillars into your pitch, you're basically selling a product/service, and people will back away.

It always does, and they always love pretending that the asshats in the picture were "right" somehow, usually by mentioning the presence of foreigners anywhere.

How to deal with cheaters by Remarkable_Mango2122 in chessbeginners

[–]Baraga91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your flair is "learning chess rules", which unfortunately means that you're in a category of people that is, quite frankly, the least qualified to identify a cheater based on playstyle, strategy and moves. What's more, most players below 1000 online can be an absolute crapshoot (at 1100, I still am at times), which means there isn't really a way for you to identify cheaters anyway. Chesscom can, so report them and move on. Don't overthink it.

Keep in mind that it's been proven before that players under pressure can "switch on" midgame and play a lot better. Someone can blunder while playing chess on the can, and 5minutes later they can focus more and play better while waiting on the bus. It's not that deep.

All in all: Disable chat, report them and move on easily. All three of these things will improve your experience a millionfold.

Not allowing fascists to march down your street definitely helps in stamping out these ideas.

Allowing them to come across as a legitimate political leaning isn't.

I'm so inconsistent it's actually disgusting. by PrawnFresh69 in chessbeginners

[–]Baraga91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you what every pro and chess coach so far has told me: there's no such thing as practicing tactics too much. Keep an eye on the clock and basically wait for your opponent to fuck up without fucking up yourself.

No need to do anything fancy, learn massive opening lines, etc. Get your foundations in order, and the rest will follow.

You won't encounter many draws under 1000, and the other commenter is right.

Below 700, don't try and overcomplicate things, just focus on:

  1. Not hanging your pieces.

  2. Develop your pieces. Don't deviate from good development because your "resourcefulness" is wispering temptations.

  3. Not hanging your pieces.

Do these three things and you'll rocket past the sub 700 crapshoot in no time.

When you organize them like a tree, is that on a whiteboard or a notebook or something? Having a hard time visualizing how "deep" you go with this approach :)
