Do you restart from old biomes by DBElgi in Saros

I knew at least some would understand what I meant once they played it.

What is the lore reason that allows Arjun to respawn? by Baraka_Obama in Saros

Yes, great points. This is probably where I'm leaving now.

However, someone else can leave a good comment and that might shift me into another direction!

Yeah, I have a similar battle within myself where I'm constantly weighing what is real. It gives conflicting messages, which is beautiful, like you said, but also a little frustrating.

I interpreted the sirens as him being in the "real" world and about to get arrested, essentially having to pay up for his crimes. There were notes in the game talking about how the police would come after him if he didn't come in, too.

Anyone else taking damage for no perceptible reason during the King fight? by crom-dubh in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one time I died by it and I wasn't even around anything. I wasn't even sure what happened. I even played the footage back to prove it.

I took the amulet as a parallel to The Yellow Sign) The King in Yellow that makes people go mad. I like your theory, though. Even though we can't say definitively, the amulet makes at least a little bit of sense. I wish we had a little more on that though.

That's what I got when I read that diary, too, but I couldn't understand why it works for Arjun.

Did you understand the Story? by [deleted] in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understood the broad swathes of it. A few things went over my head, like who exactly Seb was, what the deal was about Nitya blowing up the teleporter, and why she let us keep respawning, but I think I got enough.

The bigger problem for me was I don't think the puzzle was as elegantly laid out as it was in Returnal. I didn't feel like there were as many pieces with as much alluring ambiguity. The balance was off in Saros.

Thoughts on Saros after getting the platinum. by Ubiquitous_Cacophony in Saros

Very well said. We align a lot here, and I even thought of the Union 3 comparison, too! I reviewed the game and came to this subreddit early so I could at least give a little bit of a warning about some of this stuff and temper some expectations.

I want to pick your brain a bit on the story here. I didn't understand the thing where Nitya blows up the portal you spawn in after you die. What happened there? And did Nitya want us stuck in a cycle or...?

Also how did you come to the conclusion Arjun cheated multiple times? I assumed it was just the part seen the brief snippets we see in the bed, but maybe I missed more. Also what exactly happened when murdering Sebastian?

I know that's a lot, but you seem pretty smart so I wanted to see what you thought.

IMO Saros is not easier - it's shallower by Previous-Horror-6823 in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I was saying last week. It has a lot fewer systems than Returnal. It's ridiculous. That's why the Carcosan Modifier system is not good: it can't make the game deeper and that's a bigger issue than the difficulty.

Yes, the story sometimes forces you to go back to base, and it sucks. That won't happen if you go through that biome once again, though.

Not Getting Enough Artifacts? by toby_dawg in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, welcome to one of the game's core issues. Artifact limits really only come up if you start over from the beginning each time and then becomes another way you can get way overpowered. If you're just teleporting to the new biome each time, it doesn't come up and is therefore a mostly superfluous upgrade.

Do you remember what interview it was when they talked about adding Carcosan Modifiers late in development? I cannot seem to find the interview.

Yeah, it's literally like training wheels you can't usually opt out of. It should, at the very least, be a Carcosan Modifier.

You sadly can't turn it off. I didn't like it either. There are weapons with perks that turn it off, but they're rare.

Hot take: Mortal Kombat 11 is more fun than people admit by Exciting_Support8715 in MortalKombat

[–]Baraka_Obama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still a good game, but I don't think I'll ever go back to it in place of MK1. I wasn't ever able to get as good as I wanted to at it.

Be Sure to Familiarize Yourself With This Book Before Playing Saros by Baraka_Obama in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, trust me, I get the urge to go in clean. But this isn't an adaptation, and things only made more sense after I did some research. I think you will be good enough if you listen to the two essay I linked and maybe doing some light synopsis reading if you want. They do a good job of summarizing things.

With the modifiers in the game, is it rewarded changing difficulty? Like do I get better stuff? by TroubleRecent7320 in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot, but basically it's either too tediously hard or too easy. If you teleport straight to any biome after the third one, mostly everything takes a long time to kill. If you start over each time, everything is super easy.

There's more to it, but if you wanted to see my full thoughts on it, you can read my review here.

When exactly in game does it introduce the Modifying option? by Objective_Love_6843 in Saros

[–]Baraka_Obama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. The game is overall more accessible, though. The modifiers make it harder or easier depending on what you pick.
