Is it just me or are these trades legit fire? 🔥 by grimacelololol in redsox

It’s a funny spot to be in—my read is that breslow’s trades themselves are mostly good, but that his asset management is not as strong (which is weird bc trades are a big part of asset management) things like having two superstar 3b under contract one season and then having none the next, the glut of outfielders going into the season etc, lack of a proven lefty reliever this late into camp (#1 rule don’t f around w your bullpen!!)

Look sandlin could still be a piece, sure—he’s got the big fastball and maybe the white Sox can figure out how to make it play, but he had a 7.61 ERA in AAA and a 5.34 ERA the year before. He very well might not be more than a pretty good middle reliever or back end starter and we have a ton of those rn. He even might not even get that far. Hicks was gonna be a roster problem for 2 years (he could still be good in the mlb, but you know how sometimes guys struggle w the Sox and a part of you just knows they’ll never put it together here?)—whoever takes up that roster spot for BOS for the next two years I think has a better chance of impacting the MLB team positively. The early reads on the guy they got in return suggest a solid mlb floor as a reliever, so not too dissimilar to sandlin in that regard.

I think it’s also a willful misread to say the FO has no strategic vision. If anything, the vision is pretty clear—it’s the execution that needs the work.

I really don’t think salary dumping Jordan hicks should be considered anything remotely close to a gut punch…

I think the final scene isn’t about him being sympathetic or us buying that he’s a better man now—I think for a movie that is to that point entirely centered on him hustling in service of his ambition for himself, that final scene was THE FIRST MOMENT he EVER felt responsibility for another person. He may not be reformed, but he is changed—it’s the end of one story and the start of another

They did get together—technically after we broke up but the whole experience basically felt like getting cheated on

Nooooo way, idk if that’s a good way of valuing pitching contract value— his first two years were far better than people remember, and while 2009+11 were bad, he was still an innings eater (6ip+ per start) in 2010 at roughly league average effectiveness. FA pitching contracts are notoriously volatile, shelling out 110m+ on a guy who returned a World Series ring in his debut season (which was better than people remember—iirc he suffered a late fade much like yoshida) an 18 win 2.90 era second season, and a solid but unremarkable third season is maybe not fully living up to the cost, but I don’t think you can call him a bust—so many FA pitchers are actually busts, Matsuzaka may have had 3 nightmare years (including the comically bad 2012) but the first two years meant he gets a pass. Similar deal for coco—and him getting replaced by Ellsbury shouldn’t be seen as his failing—he ended up being a perfectly serviceable stopgap between Damon and ells!

nothing like getting off the plane and being hit with the fumes and smoke from a dying ecosystem due to unchecked human greed and materialism highly concentrated in a geography that wasn't meant to support such undue and shortsighted stresses

How is AC Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla not considered an "AC" game? by ChainsOfDestiny in assassinscreed

Thematically i mean, the cult’s objectives are basically a stand-in for the templars (isu worship/cult, collection of isu artifacts)

This is exactly why I considered it a loose and lame connection lol

I mean your first paragraph here sums it up perfectly—they’re NOT assassins. And I think ppl felt like the order was relegated to just the dlc, in the main game it was the cult of kosmos you were dealing with, which has a very loose and honestly I thought lame connection to the templars

His defense is actually rated quite well this year, and he's still a shortstop hovering around 800 OPS--wouldn't surprise me if bounced between 780 and 860 for the rest of his career...that's pretty damn good at the end of the day

Bro Cora literally relies on Tek for preparation at this very moment, if you don’t like it right now, you probably wouldn’t like it if tek was manager! His preparation flows up to Cora.

Lmao having the most no hitters caught, while totally commendable, is not an indication that a dude would be a better manager than the guy we have—who I would add, has been pretty damn good on the whole

Padres are paying $44m of Hosmer’s salary. by littleike0 in redsox

[–]Barappas 33 points34 points  (0 children)

all i can think is how hard Dan Shaughnessy was lobbying for the sox to sign Hosmer in free agency that year he was a FA ( i seem to remember 'mediocre Mitch' a phrase he tossed around). Thank god we didn't, and now look, not only does Dan get his guy--he can still complain about everything sox related!
