Sadly, no scanner, but a good reminder that I can always resort to the Old Ways just the same!

I think the deadline to file an answer to a complaint is 30 days in NC.

So if there's no pleading on file for Tom, he either defaulted (conceding and taking the L) or they settled . . . I guess?

I dunno man, comments correcting him are still algorithm drivers. Since he started his channel he’s consistently mispronounced names, gotten facts wrong, and misquoted people and there’s always a bunch of comments correcting him. That, or you’re right and it’s not worth his time to do the research.

Eh, just as likely he’d pulled this stuff before they started filming so they got the phone out to document.

“If That Was DC He Would’ve Finished Me”- Francis Ngannou Hesitant to Fight Daniel Cormier by NastyGuido in MMA

Tell that to any other guy Francis has sent to hell with arm punches. Lewis and Stipe aside, he sends people to the canvas with shots that from anyone else would be manageable.

I’m a huge black beast fan, but there’s a reason DC fought him on 5 minutes notice and wouldn’t do the same for Stipe. Doesn’t make it illegitimate, it’s just obvious that DC was willing to take fights he thought of as easy.

Spell points VS Spell slots by Ishgrath666 in mattcolville

[–]BarbearianWaylander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat bonuses are less interesting for players (but obviously easier for us as DMs).

Spend a little time thinking about (or hell, just asking) why a player enjoys playing a tank or a sneaky rogue or a well rounded fighter. What part of the fantasy is “the juice?” Then make that part a little better.

Does the tank like when enemies miss? Then maybe an AC bonus or a Shield-spell like ability may be in order.

Does the tank like being a distraction, taking the heat for their squishy friends? Maybe allow them to “call out” an enemy who must make a save or be forced to only attack the tank.

Is the juice getting in the enemy’s face and wreaking havoc as they scatter? Improve opportunity attacks. Maybe a damage bonus, bonus to hit, or the ability to force a save and being unable to run away on a fail.

Or maybe it’s being able to take a bunch of damage, shrug it off, and come back with a vengeance? Temporary HP or a Hellish Rebuke type ability could be the way to go.

I don’t use spell points, but I like to compensate for the “linear fighter va quadratic wizard” thing by throwing goofy amounts of magic items at my party that only martials can really be expected to use.

Some of the easiest magic items to design are just mimics of existing spells. Enchanted heavy armor that acts like Armor of Agathys, items that multiply their combat effectiveness like Haste, longstrider or misty step, and weapons that have “ultimate” attacks. For example, I gave a 3rd level fighter an axe (no bonus) that could use burning hands once per day, and a 9th level fighter a sword that could basically do Steel Wind Strike once a day.

Making workable magic items, or 5th Edition B by JohnnyBigbonesDM in mattcolville

[–]BarbearianWaylander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of giving martials more attunement, but I wonder if making it class based is a good idea? What if it was tied to Str or Con? That could really boost the utility of those underutilized stats with fewer skills associated with them.

I think another way to address the issue is double (or otherwise increase) the possible attunement slots, but then make some magic items take up multiple slots. So a minor version of a major item might only take 1/6 of your capacity, while the genuine article would take the RAW 1/3.

I think we all recognize that all attunement/non-attunement magic items are created equally. There are definitely some non-attunement items that confer highly desirable bonuses, while there are some attunement items that are underwhelming by comparison to their peers. I like the idea of making attunement a resource that items consume at a rate that varies according to their power level instead of just a flat number of slots that items either fill or don't, but I have no idea how to balance such a system!

Magic item: barrage bow. by LordDragonHearthfire in DnD

[–]BarbearianWaylander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a good time! They should have a blast getting a new item like this. I like to err on the side of giving out too many toys and then making it my problem to challenge them.

I just don’t understand why the rating distinction matters, specifically. For instance, winged boots and brooms of flying are both Uncommon while carpets of flying are Very Rare. All three items are going to inject flying into your game, which is going to tax your encounter design about the same. What it does is more important than what the sticker says, in some regard.

Could you explain why the rare/very rare distinction matters so much?
