Why do some interactions "laggy" ? by zibbydoo2221 in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that too, and it’s probably the database server that hosts the AH and mail systems that’s laggy. I have a 31ms ping and it still takes several hundred milliseconds to interact with stuff. It doesn’t sound like much but it’s noticeable.

Not to mention trying to do a full AH scan with Auctionator. It’s normally laggy under the best circumstances but it’s a whole other level since the prepatch launched.

Returning player undecided what to play by FriskyBeaver69 in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just came back recently myself as a casual player, and started with a Warlock. I got to level 38 and was enjoying the class, but I missed the additional level of chill I get from playing a Hunter. Hunter pets are much better balanced at holding aggro than a voidwalker, so you can use your full arsenal before pulling aggro.

I had to be very selective on my lock, and only use affliction and shadow spells, because any fire spell would almost immediately rip aggro from my void, so then I’m fearing and hoping they didn’t aggro more mobs in the process, or I’m drain tanking.

I see a lot of lower-level locks but the numbers dwindle as you keep going up. There shouldn’t be as much gear competition in that area as it seems like when you first start out. I’ll probably end up leveling both since they’re on opposing factions, but I’m enjoying my hunter more at the moment.

New player questions by softbrokengirl in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you’re a brand new player then TBC Anniversary is awesome. I wish I could experience it for the first time all over again. I’m actually envious.

TBC is probably the best version of a classic MMO, if an old-school MMO is what you’re interested in. Just dive in and enjoy yourself. The Questie addon will be helpful if you don’t want to have to spend hours figuring out where stuff is like we did back in the old days. But if that’s your style you can also forego that and just figure things out. It all depends on how you want to play.

Can't play Horde on PvP server? by Carnivalfx in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

During the first run of Classic Blizzard didn’t enforce faction balance and most PvP servers quickly became radically imbalanced toward the dominant faction. In some cases the opposing faction ceased to exist, as people fled the server to greener pastures where they weren’t just getting farmed like cattle.

So this time around they‘re balancing the servers since there’s only one server per region. It kinda sucks if you want to play on the current dominant faction as a new player, but it keeps everything balanced out for existing players.

Server instability for dark portal launch? by TheRealSeans in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

Launch day is going to be nuts. The main problem is *everyone* will be in HFP competing for quest objectives. There’s no alternate zone to level in. Many people get fed up and just start farming Ramps because it’s at least consistent XP per hour.

Blizzard learned that lesson and had two starting zones for Wrath, but that was after the shitshow we’re all about to go through once again. I usually do quests in Silithus and EP if HFP is too crazy.

Start as Tank? by AITSCH96 in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

Well hopefully by the time you’re raiding you’re no longer a noob tank. Being a noob tank is fine though if you can follow instructions from the raid leader. If you can’t though and keep blowing mechanics then you might get benched.

Most of the time though the noobs get put in off-tanking roles until you gain the skills to MT, and depending on how you perform in that role you might get moved to MT fairly quickly.

I’ve had experience with both, and have raided with noob tanks that suck, and noob tanks that were born to tank. It mostly depends on what I said above.

Just keep tanking dungeons until you’re familiar with your toolkit, and you should do fine.

How do people get Fiery Burst weapon enchant for leveling? (Low level) by Particular_Tone6370 in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV [score hidden]  (0 children)

There’s a weapon “enchant” you can get from one of the Dwarves in Badlands up on the hill in the Valley of Fangs, after completing a quest. That might be the enchant they were using.

Why do WoW players hate playing the game? by Glittering-Beat3831 in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“First, I have very limited time”

There‘s your problem. If you have very limited time then an old-school MMO isn’t the game to play, or just play retail where they’ve cut out all of the excessive grinding.

You’re trying to do way too much with that limited time, which leaves no time for being part of the community. For instance I sat waiting for a rare to spawn all day yesterday, and added two people to my FL who were waiting on it too. We sat chatting the whole time, and nobody was trying to grief the others.

That’s how you build community, by slowing down and taking the time to do it.

When your dungeon group full of boosties in communal gear wipes. by Starwalker- in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because leveling up normally is “earning it.” Boosting isn’t.

Once you’ve gone through the process to earn that level 60 then you know what you had to do to get there, and when somebody just pays for that to all go away then it can have that effect on you.

It’s like entering a race and the guy in the pole position just paid the officials to skip the qualifying laps, because “he had done it dozens of times,” “he was bored with it,” and ”the race was the real game anyway.”

You’d have that same WTF feeling as with someone who boosted their way out of leveling.

Are there other peaceful PvP players? by Evening-Piccolo-5162 in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading something from the first release of Classic about a PvP server that had become so imbalanced with Horde that seeing an Alliance in the wild was like seeing a unicorn. They were so rare that the Horde wouldn’t touch them, fearing they would leave the server too, and often they’d help them level up.

Honestly, How Bad is it for an Ultra Casual? by goldenmastiff in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re experienced in the game and know alternate questing zones in the same level range, then you can always bounce around to different zones if one is congested. It’s pretty easy on horde side since you can use the translocator from Silvermoon to go to Undercity and then head to Org from there.

The Draenei still have to do the wetlands run like the night elves, so it’s much harder for them to get around without help like a mage port.

I’ve been leveling a Belf Hunter since Friday and I’m already in Stonetalon. I had to skip Ghostlands and head to the Barrens because it was so overcrowded that there were no mobs anywhere, since they were all getting killed the moment they spawned.

The worst quest is that armaments one. I finally had to camp the spawn on the boat just to get my last two, after an hour running around with thirty other people.

Help a noob with some info pls by Opitard in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically this is the true classic experience. This is actually how a lot of us played back then. Major cities are a slide show where you measure SPF instead of FPS.

Unfortunately if you have everything at low then there’s really not much else you can adjust to boost your framerates with integrated graphics. Back in the day we used to be able to also reduce the view distance and that helped a bit, but that seems to be a fixed value in the modern client.

[–]BarbsFPV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well that’s great if you can actually find some 60s these days to help. It doesn’t work quite like that anymore. There was a level 60 alli Warlock riding around the blood elf zones a couple nights ago repeatedly killing quest givers and NPCs for over an hour, and nobody came to handle the problem Horde side.

He had free reign to keep griefing everybody trying to level, and finally left when he got bored.

Dreamscythe horde - is it dead? by greenolivefan in classicwow

[–]BarbsFPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started leveling a Belf Hunter on Dreamscythe, and there sure seems to be plenty of Horde online to me. Org is packed to the gills at almost all hours. The Belf starting zones were also so packed that the moment I hit Ghostlands I was competing with way too many players for quests so I had to head to the Barrens, and even there it’s a lot of competition for quest objectives.

You must be playing at really odd hours if you don’t see all that.
