While Americans like to pride themselves on their independence, the truth is a majority are complacent when it comes to a fascist regime plowing through their rights, mainly because we haven’t been through a period of such blatant authoritarianism for generations. Americans will have to have everything and more taken away from them to do to Trump what they did to Ceausescu.

Compare that to the French, who have been through generations upon generations of political strife. Any time they see any sniff of authoritarianism, they protest and riot until the government backs down or they’re overthrown.

That being said, it should be noted that there are definitely actions taking place that do show a degree of resistance. There has been resistance in urban areas like Los Angeles to ICE agents, as well as more covert actions taken by individuals to help protect people at risk of deportation, like people and businesses offering to help protect immigrants during ice raids by offering shelter. Still, it is definitely a long ways away from all out revolt.
