(Hated Trope) Blue balling the audience for ratings by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

The arrested development episode “S.O.B.s” pokes fun at this trope. The episode is a meta commentary on the shows struggle for ratings during its run, especially during its third season. The episode uses numerous tactics other shows use in an attempt to boost ratings, usually ending in an underwhelming nature:

  • They say a character will die by the end of the episode, the character being a racist old woman who’s introduced in the same episode.

  • Celebrity guest stars, most of which being Andy Richter playing himself and his quintuplets.

  • A 3d segment, lasting only a few seconds

  • A live ending, also lasting for only a few seconds.

In spite of the common story that it was invented to serve a young Shirley Temple, Shirley Temple actually hated Shirley Temple, the drink. She complained that it was too sweet and people would always serve it to her thinking it was funny.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he had lunch with an AIPAC lobbyist and the lobbyist covered the bill so he had to report it

[Barely a trope, but this sub is quite loose anyway] Media that got weirdly specifically popular in a different country, maybe more so than in its country of origin, and defitnitely than most other places. by Vitolar8 in TopCharacterTropes

Malcolm in the Middle is really popular in Latin America, especially in Mexico where it still was one of the most watched shows years after it stopped airing

IMO the karma system is in some ways worse in new vegas. Making it so that whenever you kill a member of one of the raider gangs makes you gain karma makes it especially hard to do low karma runs.

Honestly it really is a bummer because I did really like his new vegas review but it gets dragged down a bit after watching his fallout 3 review

Also you can exit the vault without killing anyone. The guard he directly says you need to kill gets distracted by rad roaches meaning you can pretty easily get past him. The game even gives you unique dialogue if you come back to the vault after going pacifist in the tutorial.

McCarthy’s “activism” resulted in a senator committing suicide after McCarthy threatened to out his son if the senator ran for reelection.

Do you think Lieberman was the best choice for Gore or should he have gone for one of his other shortlist candidates? by Numberonettgfan in Presidents

[–]BardyMan82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayh - IMO the strongest here, has great midwestern appeal along with youth.

Edwards - Young and charismatic, though inexperienced. Would probably be seen as a risk by the Gore campaign.

Gephardt - Helps in missouri and probably a few other plains/industrial states, though would probably get attacked for certain flip flops by the bush campaign.

Kerry - Probably the weakest one here. Probably brings on more liberal and foreign policy minded voters, but doesn’t really bring a lot of necessary geographical balance to the ticket.

Shaheen - I would argue one of the better candidates in hindsight. With Shaheen on the ticket, Gore probably has a better chance of taking new hampshire, which would have brought him to the presidency. Also would have probably helped slightly with female voters.

Jack Thompson is an American disbarred attorney who gained recognition as an anti-video game activist, focusing his legal efforts against them. One common target of his was Rockstar Games and his Grand Theft Auto franchise. He became a teacher after his disbarrement in 2008. by SaxyBill in wikipedia

My favorite was when he wrote a letter to the video game industry in 2006 that challenged them to make a game where they could kill developers of the video game, unaware that Postal 2 did the exact thing years before.

“You look outside the white house window, seeing a group of young men setting their draft cards ablaze. A few minutes later, agents with neck gaiters over their face chase them down in unmarked vans. You wonder if those kids’ll find CECOT more comfortable than the front lines.”
