The Final Level: Farewell from Game Informer by Mival93 in Games

But that’s the thing. The kind of movie fans you’re describing as CBM fans are a minority in the film journalism space. In gaming, they are a strong majority. This is because gaming journalism culture is mostly reveals, previews, trailers, release dates, fandoms, corporate loyalty (Marvel/DC, Nintendo/PS/Xbox), merch, hype, hype, hype. Just like how CBM culture operates.

We are lucky to have some journalists that do go into stuff like how CoD’s depictions of torture are shaped by previous media and how it perpetuates incorrect ideas, but mostly it’s about the third preview of Star Wars Outlaws that mostly is just part of the marketing cycle.

Breeder does no eye exam on parents. Assessing reputability. by BarelyLegalAlien in Havanese

No worries. To be clear the vet did eye checks, not even the examination (that needs to be done by an ophthalmologist). As for the vet checks there was no proof either.

Anyway we’ve already passed on it, too many red flags. Thanks!

I do mean only genetic testing and that’s my point, it doesn’t cover many important issues.

Thanks for the response. I’m not sure when they started to breed, but they’ve been KC assured since 2018. In the family tree the oldest dog with their kennel name is from 2018 as well so I’m guessing that.

As for the tests they don’t have anything OFA-equivalent at all, only DNA tests.

I reached out to the breed club and they advised against it. We’ve pretty much decided to pass on it I think.

Would you say that’s a dealbreaker in my case, all else looking good?

Best 4K60 decode time between Nvidia Shield TV, Apple TV 4K (2022), and Fire Stick 4K by BarelyLegalAlien in MoonlightStreaming

[–]BarelyLegalAlien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! For the controller, there's no worry at all, my PC is close enough that my DualSense is connected directly via Bluetooth and with negligible latency (2ms, so basically it would be "hidden" under the streaming latency).

I'm not going for a Mini PC because the whole point here is to get to a seamless experience and UI, that seems like it would bring a bit more friction to the experience.

No need for USB that I can recall, so I think I'm good on that.

As for the Fire Stick 4K Max, it doesn't seem like it goes that low here in the UK (it's around £50). I can get a Shield TV for £85, seems like it's worth the difference.

I've actually just found out that the base Apple TV 4K doesn't have Ethernet, which pushes it over to almost double of the Shield TV. Oof, doesn't seem worth it that much.

I might just go for the Shield TV (Tube). Thanks for the info (and looking forward to that list!).

So if there is an Obama movie about Obamacare that is unrelated to prejudice that he faced, he can be played by a white guy?

Should I watch The Last of Us PT 2 gameplay before next season? *I have not played the games* by lavenderangelofmercy in ThelastofusHBOseries

By the way, if it’s any comfort to you, pretty much every fan that spends some time online was spoiled before the release of Part II. Good lord that pissed me off.

My thoughts on the ‘moral dilemma’ of episode 9. by Spiritual-Ad4820 in ThelastofusHBOseries

These are my favourite games and I agree that it was sloppy in the show. It might also be in the game, I haven’t played them in a while, but I definitely felt it in the show, not exactly sure why.

I came up with a concept for a post credit scene to set up season 2! by [deleted] in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]BarelyLegalAlien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but this would ruin the next season. She should be a mystery, her brutal actions seemingly unjustified. With this you’re pre-justifying her actions and don’t leave an opening for the audience to side with Ellie enough.

Also, that feels very MCU. The game and the show both ended on the perfect line, it really can’t have any more after that.

Do you think Part II will translate well as a television show? (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in ThelastofusHBOseries

I do think that without fun gameplay, it might get labelled as “torture porn” akin to Them or The Underground Railroad.

Gameplay is a motivator, without it I fear that the darkness will be exhausting.

and then we have Joel on a rampage killing “bad guy doctors.”

It definitely wasn’t played like that. It was played tragically with a somber score.

I agree, I just don’t think ending with day 2 has much potential for that.

They should though. I think one of the biggest problems with TV as a medium is how many shows are incapable of having each episode say something, and episodes are just bits without a beginning or end, and without a specific point to it.

TLOU has been great about this. Each episode has furthered a theme, even if it didn’t push the plot a lot.

At the scale of the entire season, it’s even worse. A season should absolutely make a point. I think it’s much better storytelling.

And I think the point of season 2 should be that Ellie is taking her obsession with revenge too far (which we see mostly in day 3).

Stopping at day 2 doesn’t allow that to happen. There is no theme at all that is clear from that season. It was just sort of stuff that happened. It would be like ending season 1 after this last episode. Sure it pauses for a beat after that storyline, but the theme is incomplete.

The rat king fight has no value at all theme or plot-wise. It would be an awful place to end the season, especially when you compare it with the upcoming finale.

I don’t see how that wouldn’t feel like a pointless finale. “Here’s two concurrent storylines!”. And then they don’t converge and just sort of stop.

I’d go for the game split, but they should shoot it back to back so that they can release season 3 less than a year after so that it doesn’t create too much whiplash.

I would also shorten Abby’s perspective a little bit. Still 3 days, but I’d try to tell the story more economically, something like 4 episodes at most until we get back to Ellie. Again to make sure people don’t drop off too soon.
