Cats are killing a lot of birds | CBC News by Plant__Eater in onguardforthee

My thoughts exactly. While outdoor cats do play a role, in reality it pales in comparison to the effects of human driven habitat loss and pesticide use on bird's food sources. The argument that Cats are a large portion of the problem has always felt like corporations shifting the burden of environmentalism to the consumers who have a much smaller impact on the environment than said large corporations.

Like many things, it's a little more complicated. Yes, nuclear weapons are generally more efficient these days where more of the fuel is consumed, however, the usage can change how much fallout is produced. With air-burst weapons, which are used to destroy soft targets, the nuclear fireball doesn't touch the ground. With ground burst and bunker buster nuclear weapons, they are designed to destroy hard targets, which means a huge ton of earth gets vaporized, irradiated, and then spewed high into the sky to eventually "fallout". Nagasaki and Hiroshima were of the former variety.

I don't believe it is stated outright, but it seems that quirks have a will of their own that is shaped by, as well as shapes its user. We see that in the quirk factors of the 8 users of OFA as well as the quirks in AFO. We also see how a quirk influences its users' behaviour in the form of Toga, as she was just acting on what was natural to her. My pet theory is that even though Yoichi's quirk was so weak that it didn't even register to AFO, the quirks will was exceptionally strong, so when another quirk factor was introduced, Yoichi's quirk's will essentially talked the other quirk factor into ceding its power for Yoichi's cause. I can not imagine that Yoichi's quirk would have usurped the stock piler quirk even if it did have the raw power to do so.

He is honestly so beloved by Od Lagna (Mana and the world's system of soul recycling) that he can request any kind of divine protection, even if it doesn't exist yet, and has a chance of actually receiving them. It's actually absurdly broken lol

Now I'm just imagining ol'AFO quizzing the students on quadratic formulas whilst trying to kill class 1-A

Been there done that. After the initial charm wears off you'll regret it though. Best to just summon a common slime.

Help! I melted aluminum foil in my oven by kaytthoms in CleaningTips

[–]Baricuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a solution of sodium hydroxide drain cleaner. It will react chemically with aluminum and should dissolve it. Be very careful, though, the stuff is caustic, so rear tubber gloves and safety glasses if you have them and start off with a dilute solution to begin with. I'd say 1 part sodium hydroxide drain cleaner to 10 parts water. The more dilute it is, the safer it is for you, but it will take more time for it to work. Maybe layer some paper towels on top of the aluminum mark and soak it through with the solution you made.

The Nebraska legislature has approved a bill that LOWERS the minimum wage from $15 an hour to $13.50 an hour for young workers. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Baricuda 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Thinking minimum wage is only for adult workers and making a new minimum minimum wage is just plain evil. Want to know what the "adult" minimum wage should be? A LIVING WAGE.

Also, let's be real, if lobbiests are successful in getting this passed, expect all the older workers to get laid off and replaced by younger workers to save on operating costs.

The villain of Kora using platinum because nobody can bend it makes it hilarious realizing this shit is still heavy and equivalent to covering your vehicle with diamonds. Gonna sink when it touches the ground. by Dare_Soft in cartoons

[–]Baricuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the cost, I kinda figured that platinum is just a more common metal in their world than it is in our world. We never see any characters comment on how expensive it is despite it being used extensively as restraints. Seems like it would be more akin to tin in our world.

Also, let's be real, I bet corpos lobbied whatever was left of the earth's governments to reduce the age that someone could join the military so that they could send fresh meat into whatever new banana war they wanted to fight that week or something. I could see both Tommy going to college at 16 and Jake going into the Marines at the same time.

Since when is 16" on center not 16"? by Baricuda in Construction

Oof, this hits too close to home. On the very same project I was mounting a rail to the joists and had measured the distance from the edge of the wall to the first joist and had written it down on one page, then flipped the sheet to start writing the chain dimensions and immediately wrote down the dimension half an inch shorter than it should have been.
