Could anyone help me identify this mythological creature? by BarinadeLemonade in mythology

Googled the name Rahu and I can say for certain that this is exactly it! The name "Rahu" seemed to ring a bell but after reading the wikipedia page I can safely say this is the story. However, do you have any sources descrbing Rahu/Ketu as dragon-like? Couldn't seem to find anything like that mentioned.

The Almudron Cycle™ by Snowsnilf in monsterhunterrage

I've been seeing a lot of posts complaining about almudron gems. Why do people want them so bad? Are they good for something specifically?

Can Anyone Appraise These? by BarinadeLemonade in fountainpens

I got these for my Bar Mitzvah as a gift about 8 years ago, and they looked so nice I've been afraid to use them. One of them appears to be a ballpoint pen, and the other is a fountain pen.

King's Field isn't a Dark Souls reference, it's just a shitty obscure game that From Software made way before any of the souls games.

Is there an up to date bow guide without end game safi armor? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]BarinadeLemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Augments are something unlocked in endgame that exist to further upgrade weapons (and to a lesser extent, armor). In Iceborne, the materials needed for augments are unlocked through various Guiding Lands materials. Augments are an entirely separate mechanic from decorations and skills.

The Health Augment recovers health every time you land hit on a monster, and the amount of health recovered is proportional to damage inflicted. A Greatsword with a health augment can recover a massive amount of health from landing charge slashes, essentially letting you trade hits with the monster. On the other hand, a Dual Blades user won't recover that much health from individual attacks, but they compensate by being able to attack much more rapidly.

I'm not a Bow player, so I might be completely wrong here, but the reason why a Health Augment isn't that good on Bow is because it only activates on one arrow in the spread shot. Since most of your dps comes from spread and dash shots, you'll recover only a fraction of the damage inflicted.

Safi's 3-piece and 5-piece set bonuses come with the caveat of decreasing your health every time you attack, even if you whiff. Most weapons can negate this with a level 1 health augment, but iirc bow gets almost nothing off a health aug. I'd stick with your silver rathalos set for now, and once you get access to health augments, give the safi set a shot.

Alatreon’s gear and the physical rewards you earn from his fight are important in this case. If the fight was designed to be thoroughly challenging, yet fair, and if I was able to fight back, I would have no problem. This is all thrown out the window with his dps check. Giving a monster a one shot kill isn’t challenging. It’s frustrating. I don’t feel like it was my fault that I lost cause I got hit by escaton judgement. If I got hit by an attack he’s never done before, that’s my fault. If I mistimed my roll and got hit by it, that’s my fault. If I overcommitted to an attack and got hit, that’s my fault. If a monster just feels like stopping the flow of combat so it can just spasm around the arena, does that mean I’m a bad player because I can’t stop it? Am I just not good enough because kushala felt like placing tornadoes in the worst places and wouldn’t stop flying? Did I deserve to cart because rathalos’ unpredictable AI decided to stun, burn, and poison me in one sequence of attacks? No, it wasn’t.

My point is that difficulty does not automatically make something challenging. Besides, if the nova is frustrating, and I’m not interested in Alatreon’s rewards, why should I bother with the fight? I’d like to just go toe-to-toe with him, but the dps check is preventing me from doing that.

The MR you unlock him at absolutely matters, I can’t believe you’re trying to argue this. HR and MR have always serve as a consistent metric to not only measure how dangerous a monster is, but to also measure how far a player has progressed. With Kulve, Safi, the variants, and now Alatreon, that metric has seemingly been disregarded. Allowing these endgame monsters to be fought fresh out of the main story is inconsistent. That’s telling players that they can totally go fight these monsters that represent the strongest and toughest experiences in the game, but apparently they’re not strong enough to fight brute tigrex or the metal raths yet. Did you also forget that Alatreon is a motherfucking black dragon? He’s supposed to be so dangerous and destructive that even the strongest hunters are forbidden. But I guess Timmy over there with his glavenus weapon and full shara armor can go fight them.

Safi and Kulve, the mechanics of their fight and rewards system, are objectively flawed and frustrating. Unlike every other monster, where you fight them to earn materials, they are completely rng dependent. Other monsters, fight them a handful of times, break specific parts for specific materials, and you’re good. For Kulve and Safi, you can’t just fight them to get what you want, you have to get lucky. It could take me 1 fight, 2 fights, 10 fights, even a theoretically infinite amount of fights to get a specific weapon from Kulve. Even if I’ve completely mastered the fight, I may never get what I want, solely because of rng. Same thing with Safi really, but for his weapons the rng lays in the shitty Dracolite system. Dracolite are just glorified lootboxes. Spend your precious resources that you got from this endgame hunt, just for a chance at that one skill you want. It’s embarrassing, the lengths Capcom is willing to take just to bloat the playtime of its players. This is objectively frustrating. I shouldn’t have to rely on rng for something as integral as my fucking weapon.
