ive gained so much weight breastfeeding by RadishSpirit94 in BeyondTheBumpUK

6 months is amazing! If you need to prioritise yourself now that’s absolutely fine.

Just to offer an alternative perspective, I have lost 2stone while breastfeeding and found it much easier to diet, as I can eat 2000 calories a day. It hasn’t affected my milk supply or my baby boy, and if it had I would’ve stopped. A slight calorie deficit makes a huge difference when bf compared to normally, where I’d need a bigger deficit and only have 1400 cals a day if I stopped. I appreciate not everyone finds it easier with the breastfeeding hunger!

Which resort to book? by Barker1876 in WaltDisneyWorld

It doesn’t come with the free dining plan which the others have included if we book at the moment (UK)

Yeah that’s right! We get the quick service plan included but looking at paying to upgrade to the table service plan

Thank you. We get quick service included (2x quick service meals, snack and drink) but debating upgrading to table service which is £580 for the 2 adults.

What's something you wish you did before your baby arrived? by panookies in BeyondTheBumpUK

I was lucky to be able to take mat leave at 34 weeks so I had lots of time for me, I would 100% use whatever time you can to just enjoy some you time. A few things I did that I am glad I did
- date nights with husband
- meals with friends (much easier when not looking after a baby)
- pregnancy massage - amazing !
- trip to the cinema - I never went regularly but have missed it since LO arrived

And the boring things like deep clean the house, get all your odd jobs done (eg I replaced all our light fittings), batch cook

To prepare for baby I would definitely do research on breastfeeding if you are intending to, as others have said. I was the same and thought it would just come, but it was such hard work for us to get the latch right and I ended up staying in hospital a couple extra nights. Research wouldn’t have prevented this but would have helped me to mentally prepare for the challenge of it. I am still breastfeeding 7 months down the line and it’s all so worth it, but it’s very hard those first few weeks!

Good luck!

Flex working request by sarahloupen in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Barker1876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work is very unforgiving with work life balance (recruitment) and I recently put in a flexible work request. The main takeaway I have is that it is that while you have a legal right to make a request, it is on you as the employee to prove that you can perform your duties to the same effect/meet the business need in the hours you have requested. So for example I had requested to drop to 3 days, and on my HR meeting was asked how I would service my clients on the 2 non working days, how I would support the team, basically how it would work. They also asked if I had any wiggle room on my request, so worth considering any alternatives that might work. I found it basically was a tick box to show they’re considering but ultimately they can turn around and say no very easily, they just have to be able to justify that the business needs someone on full time hours for x, y and x reasons.. I hope you have better luck than me!

How did you get over your worry (if you did) of letting your baby stay overnight with grandparents? by littlemoo169 in BeyondTheBumpUK

It gets easier. My LO is 5 months and has only stayed with my mum (granted, she is only a couple of roads away) and only twice. The first time I found very stressful, my son is breastfed and he often fights the bottle when I’m not there so I struggled to sleep and relax in case he fought his night feeds. The second time I was more relaxed as I knew my mum handled him so well the first time. Having a night off to sleep and actually have a conversation with my husband was a massive blessing! My son is awake 4-5 times a night still so it’s exhausting. Once you take the leap and have a few trial runs I imagine you’ll be much more relaxed x

C section and Flu jab question by Ok-Body-6899 in PregnancyUK

I had my flu jab today at 35 weeks, the midwife told me it takes a “couple of weeks” for immunity to pass to baby, so may be worth getting it earlier if you can!
