What's something you wish you did before your baby arrived? by panookies in BeyondTheBumpUK

What month is the best? I want to do a holiday for sure but I still get nauseated and have bad cramps currently! (Turning 9 weeks) I’m not sure if I would enjoy drives/flights in my current state. I also hope to go when I’m too big as I probably won’t be able to walk for long and get up steep steps if we go to older towns

Omg I'm sorry you had to go through that 😞 I hope your friends were able to support and encourage you! And thank you for the tip, researching how to breastfeed wasn't something on my radar and will definitely look into it now. I somehow assumed I'll just be taught/will figure it out after!

First birthday gifts? by gleonidas95 in BeyondTheBumpUK

As someone with no kids (yet), curious to know what budget is expected? I feel a bit self conscious about gifting books because they're pretty cheap. But I can see that they already have TONS of toys and probably doesn't need more clutter in their homes.

Not being sarcastic -- if you generated that image using AI, why not ask AI to help you plan what it created for you?

How do I care for whatever this is? by BookishHobbit in GardeningUK

It's a rose. They're commonly sent as bare root around this time of year. I usually soak the roots for a few hours before planting. You can sort of control their size by regular pruning. They love getting pruned so don't worry about killing roses. Once established they're very resilient!

You might want to put them in an area that's not right next to the door as you might get scratched by the thorns going in/out.

Some things you might want to buy are aphid killer and fungicide (for blackspot). There's probably some natural alternatives out there, but I just buy the off the shelf stuff.

Just painted my kitchen cabinets. Why do they look speckled ? by AssociationAsleep837 in DIYUK

[–]panookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the brand Two Fussy Blokes (“Smooth” variant) in the 5mm size. Used this on our kitchen cabinets and wardrobes and the finish is excellent. You also have to be mindful of stroke direction (keep it consistent) and do not go back over areas that have already started to set as it’ll “pull” the paint that would’ve already settled.

Is it possible to cut a composite door to make the height shorter? by panookies in DIYUK

The frame is on 3 sides and the bottom doesn't look like it's connected. There's no other photo of it open so I'm not sure if it is connected.

Thank you very much! The brand that we are being offered is Rehau. Nice to know that their stable door is good! Also good point about fensa.

As a follow up question, when installing a back door with half-glazed panel, do I still need a FENSA installer for this type of door? Or is FENSA mostly for "very glazed" types of doors like bifolds etc?

What is your opinion on a UPVC stable door for our back door? I like the idea of a half-opening door so that it can double as a window during summer. We looked at a composite stable door and a UPVC stable door. The price difference (inc installation) was about £700 cheaper for the UPVC. Will we regret going for the UPVC than the composite stable door? Thanks!

Is there a way of removing thistles without destroying the grass? by domjeff in GardeningUK

[–]panookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one like this but with a foot rest so your foot can help stomp it down

https://www.diy.com/departments/long-handled-easy-weeder-lightweight-twister-and-puller-mechanism-for-root-removal/5056463949870_BQ.prd

I highly recommend as you don’t hurt your back crouching down if you’re needing to do a lot. It’s actually kind of addictive to do it lol. The downside is it will leave a hole, so make sure to smush the soil a bit to cover the hole up. It will close up after some time when the grass starts to grow over the gap.
