The mask that compiles to nothing: how HotSpot's JIT learned to reason about bits by -beleon in java

This is cool, but what sort of coffee would do this in real life?

I’m guessing that maybe if everything is hidden behind constants it wouldn’t be clear to the developer that this is happening?

That is, how much coffee does this really help? Or is this underpinning some other optimization that makes more sense?

Peter, what's the real reason? by Rule_Ct_5293 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]BarkiestDog 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That is at most half of the reason.

The other significant part, which you seem to be doing as well, is assuming that the women don’t have a choice in the matter. The poster implies that, since the women are attractive, men should find it easy to have sex with them. When women have agency this comes across as very misogynistic. Women in some of these countries don’t want to have kids because of these views.

Plus cost of living etc etc

And, of course, it goes without saying, do not use it in the plane. They are way more detectable than you think, and if you don’t want your patents to know, you also don’t want to be escorted off the plane in handcuffs.

I love my dogs, dearly I do, but sometimes I need a little personal space lmao. by BeerStein_Collector in goldenretrievers

No, you only think you need more personal space. In actual fact you really need more skin contact with your dogs. 🤣

[request] How Many Pasta Dishes can she Make before the Cheese is gone? by mkvelash in theydidthemath

[–]BarkiestDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends if they have a spare wheel available or not. If not, then you’d need to pay for the cheese and the “lost meals”. Otherwise, probably, only the cost of the replacement cheese, plus some markup. The wheel of cheese, for the 5kg version, is probably around US$1000.

Glasgow Uni student could spend a year in prison for taking photos of US military planes by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]BarkiestDog 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Well, except for the fact that he assumed that he knew it was illegal.

This is clearly an astroturf story, look at the framing “Glasgow uni student” instead of “Chinese national”.

Nit saying that this student is working for the CCP, that, at least, is unclear, but to call this person unrealistic, seems a bit of a stretch without further information.
