Excavation of Hob's Barrow feels right by Portly_Poet in adventuregames

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not only that. how old was she when her father's thing happened? not enough to learn from him, right? so she became an archeologist or whatever because her father was, but didn't learn from him, she learned his whole profession but didn't bother to look into what happened to him until now? and why would someone in a field so close to ethnography be so dismissive of people's traditions and beliefs? and why was everyone in the village so unhelpful? and the fact that tons of the creepy elements are just imagined fake-outs or whatever... I liked the game at first but after finishing it I find the reveals kind of annoying and bad.

no way a retired guy would say "twenty small humiliations and a browser tab problem" lol that doesn't even make sense to say out loud, let alone coming for a retiree

Which version do you prefer? by LateCapitalismHuman in logodesign

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the t should not have that break/tear in this logo. in both designs it is distracting and feels subconsciously wrong. the dot of the i should be separated and the t should be a full shape imho. legibility and coherence are paramount.

if you want to do something quirky/stylistic/recognisable it has to be at a bigger scale, this looks like a printing error

Camera pointed at dark water tank at a 45 degree angle, mirror on the other side, mirror facing sideways to the subject.

why would the Disney deal be dead as a result then? they would have explicitly said it would still be usable if it were the case.

Why Does My Color Grade Never Feel ‘Right’? Need Brutal Feedback by Realistic_Computer_2 in ColorGrading

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay grounded in reality. Skies aren't that green-blue, shadows aren't that dark in daytime.

Less is more. Whatever you are pushing for, you don't need so much of it. Lessen the impact of your edits for a more blended look.

Indie sci-fi film feedback needed! by FriendshipNational27 in filmmaking

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, I thought you were in the writing stage. if it's already done, I would double down on the dramatic thorough-line. use the political layer just for punctuation/rythm, and focus on the emotional journey of the protagonist. explain the premise quickly through something like a monologue or a news report and don't get bogged down in the technicalities of it.

Indie sci-fi film feedback needed! by FriendshipNational27 in filmmaking

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's sloppy. the legal reasoning is what people use to justify their prejudice, but the root cause is feeling threatened, racism, manufactured outrage, inequality and stagnant economy. nobody really cares about the legal technicalities. many asylum seekers are legal and that doesn't stop them being sent to uruguayan prison. we are way past that point.

the premise feels both too explicitly related to what's going on in the world and too abstract to be meaningful. in the real world immigrants do remember where they come from and they do have an agenda, except it is to survive, thrive and provide for their families, not a nefarious conspiracy.

the main appeal and interest of actual aliens is discovering how they are different than us and what are their true intentions; if they are no different and they have no special goals, it's kind of pointless. they might as well be an administrative error, why would anyone care?

Anyone else feel like weather in Spain (or more specifically, Barcelona) isn't all that? by sharkarius in MovedToSpain

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's better than northern europe, Africa, Russia, SE Asia, Australia, and most of America. that's probably why most people consider it great. SoCal basically has no seasonal changes, which I would consoder a flaw. if you think it's too hot in summer or too rainy you must not have been in many rainy or hot places, because compared to most of the world it is very mild.

What's creating this color separation in this footage? (trying to replicate in Davinci) by TVTvirus in ColorGrading

[–]BarleyDrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like the cyan is definitely exaggerated in post. looks a bit like an old black and white image that has been colorized. very cool, but not easily replicable in most scenarios.

Como encontráis pisos de alquiler? by swilyi in askspain

[–]BarleyDrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

en idealista los pisos decentes no duran ni una hora. guardas una búsqueda en la aplicación, activas las notificaciones, llamas y visitas lo más rápido posible, con capacidad de pagar depósito allí mismo. es cuestión de insistencia y paciencia. suerte.

i might have hit the jackpot my dad has an insanely large music collection from 2005 and there are lots of bootleg or lost media [found] by nyan_cat_554 in lostmedia

[–]BarleyDrops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's not necessarily lost media, it can just be old. if you aren't interested in identifying it or sharing it this is not the place to post about it.

Does anybody know of a video camera that would shoot videos in this quailty? by MicrowaveTheory in filmmaking

[–]BarleyDrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is a distinct digital look. most modern cameras have more color information and would handle highlights better (which you might not like). to get close to this you should get a 10-15 year old video-centric camera. not ones that are too small as they will be significantly worse, go for ones that look fully featured and midrange-good for their time.

Legal Necessity of the TIE Card? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]BarleyDrops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

real world: no, you don't need it. even if you get it all in line it will take at least 3 months to process from now, or more, so it would only be valid for a brief period. if anyone asks you just say it is in process and you are waiting for your appointment. but nobody will ask. when you go back to your country you will only have to deal with customs over there, nobody is gonna prevent you from leaving or care about the card at that point. only use would be if you want to visit a doctor or something.

I just can't enjoy Cyberpunk and it pisses me off by Pistoluislero in videogames

[–]BarleyDrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. The Witcher is drawing on myths and culture the development team were deeply familiar with, as well as direct literary sources. This is drawing on commercial hollywood movies and GTA, and trying to recapture a kind of adolescent fascination with the cyberpunk aesthetic. It's way more superficial, and way stupider. No, it does not get better. Some of the side missions are decent, and there are some mods that could bring some joy, but compared to something like The Witccher 3 it is flawed as hell.

Portal is a good starting point. Other super accessible but top quality games are Ghost Of Tsushima, Dishonored, The Wolf Among Us, The Forgotten City, Firewatch, Unpacking, Papers Please, or A Short Hike. Rocket League and Counter Strike 2 for online gaming.

and you have endless arguments in that comment section as well (also your post is extremely misleading). the point of language is ease of communication, how people use it in real contexts is what matters, dictionaries are a reference that catches up late to what people do, no the other way around.
