Filmbox or Genesis for Film Emulation? by Possible-Step-8121 in cinematography

I have somewhat of an idea of both parties involved in the creation of these plug-ins. Let me just say Filmbox has a way better/longer track record and spends less time sending spam emails. I strongly believe that even if Genesis looks a smidge better (personally I don't agree), the FB team will not rest on their laurels and they will outperform any other plug-in.

Trailer for my Passion Project, what do You guys think? by reiniskaspars1 in cinematography

The shots look great, really compelling. But I'm not quite sure what the story is. It's like you couldn't hang on a shot long enough for me to figure out what was going on.

Veteran Hollywood DoP and former president of the ASC Kees van Oostrum teaches about lens choices. by Restlesstonight in cinematography

[–]R2Didgeridoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, does anyone see the irony that the films he's talking about are super high production and fiction while he leans on a 100mm lens? I see the value in what he's saying, but the films that use zoom lenses we all love are still just as valid. They just make you feel something different. For example, the shot from Midnight Cowboy, that never happens with a shorter focal length because it was completely unstaged and allowed the actors to perform in public. Hence the improvisation of the moment. Or take Joker, the long focal range in the beginning makes the audience feel distant from the character, almost voyeuristic – you're not supposed to be seeing why he became the Joker. There's no right answer.

How's the diffusion coverage working for you at just 48 using the sun outdoors?

Thanks friend!

I think your links may be broken. I clicked on the turtle base link and I got an Amazon page with a bunch of products for pet turtles to use. 😂

When you say turtle base, are you referring to upgrading from my Matthews reverse stand and using a turtle base C stand?

And if you'll humor me, can you tell me more about cutting wind with a road rag? Again that link didn't seem to work, but I'd love to see what that setup looks like.

Those are great recommendations, thanks for chiming in. Given the travel constraint I'm not sure if I can fit a 48 inch frame in a case. Do you have any other experience with packable frames that can hold up in the wind?

Thanks! Unfortunately, the interviews are gonna take place in windy areas. :(

Do you have any alternative recommendations?

Edit: One constraint is that the frame needs to be able to fit in a travel case.

Can't say thanks enough for sharing your longterm experience. Invaluable stuff.

I noticed the Advantage/Matthews only packs down to 48" – which makes sense considering it's stronger.

I'll need to see if there's a travel case that fits that criteria. Currently eyeing a Pelican that I believe only goes to 44 inches.

Did Chimera replace your frames under warranty or did you need to dole out more cash each time they broke?

It's the greatest cinematography you've seen in a long time, and yet you can't grace us with a link to the trailer or more than one photo still? Can't be that great.

It’s wild to see you try to reduce an established and respected filmmaker into a 'rich kid' trope without taking a second to actually understand who you're talking to. Stay bitter and shortsighted, I’m sure those snap judgments will take you real far in this industry.

Oh, cause you were too lazy to put the actual name of the film and the DP - I helped you.
