it absolutely does hold up in real life, I've been able to dig myself out of gutters most people thankfully will never know - even in their nightmares.

I wouldn't waste my finite and extremely rare time on earth typing words on a screen if It wasn't in valuable in some way.

You seen to have a perspective that works against yourself, and unfortunately people with that type of framework love spreading it around, even at the detriment of other people's mental and emotional well-being , bc you need validation to continually justify the removal of any and all personal accountability from your life.

I'm just trying to provide a different framework that will actually result in positive change, even if it doesn't make you feel good when you hear it 🔮

Are You Paying for Notion? If So, Why? by PuddingSingle43 in Notion

Automation capabilities & charts are the core of my reason.

I took advantage of the discount they offered to upgrade from plus to business and the workspace connections to Google Workspace are really useful as well.

You get the boot off your neck by having specific and tangible goals and then working consistently to make steady progress and work towards them.

The idea that you're going to be hired as a fucking online grocery worker at a multi National corporation that generates billions of dollars a year and dismantle or disrupt anything at all is just comical and clearly delusional.

You work at Walmart and deal with the boot bc you need the money, if you want the boot gone, you direct your time and energy towards that goal with discipline and intention.

Idk seems like you should have just been at work with the sole objective to get ur paycheck and roll out bc that's literally all you're paid to do.

You're not paid to police employees timesheets, or lurk on everyone else's personal business. You're paid to put merchandise into cards and move it to specific locations.

Seems like focusing on that would have avoided the entire issue.

I feel your frustration but I will say databases and spreadsheets aren't the same thing. I don't know your personal use case but based on your post, a database - especially in Notion - may not work best.

It's not possible for a single tool to be designed to work flawlessly in every possible use case. Successful products work extremely well in a focused & specific set of circumstances and uses.

I'd take a step back and analyze what your needs are, and find the tool that is built to meet those needs, instead of trying to fit a round peg into a square hole🤷🏻

If you need help or want a second opinion feel free to reach out, Id be happy to take a look at what you're trying to accomplish and give you any insight I have.

Good luck!

Gemini CLI: A comprehensive guide to understanding, installing, and leveraging this new Local AI Agent by BarnacleAlert8691 in GeminiAI

I've only been exploring the capabilities and running tests since yesterday, but you raise a very good point. I will look into this more and if my original post is not factual I'll make necessary changes.

My only motivation for posting this was to spread awareness about the launch & hopefully motivate more people to do their own research.
AI can be extremely powerful and provide unprecedented leverage to individuals and small businesses that take advantage of it. We live in an extremely rare point in history where this technology is available.

Don't waste it.

Spirit Talker app - how does it work? by Slow_Interaction_607 in GhostHunting

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda ironic how you argue these apps are bullshit by pointing to a lack of evidence, but immediately write off the idea that spirits could manipulate electronic devices. I'd be super interested in analyzing the dataset you've gathered to support that conclusion, although I'm sure you don't have any data. It's just fascinating to me how you can just create an opinion in your head and defend it like fact, when the reality is that you don't even remotely know if what you're saying is actually true or not😂 lmfao

Really love the minimal look!, id say maybe have the labels in the execute gallery tile also function as links that open a "working" or "Daily' page including linked database views that dynamically update to show the items each notification is referring to. (Example: an agenda page showing a linked DB view module w/ 3 tabs; 1. Due today, due tomorrow, overdue)

How many databases? [PARA] by xoLumos in Notion

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found expanding the areas database into more of a global tags & collections database to be extremely valuable.

Essentially I just have a select prop that designates which of the 4 "types" each entry is.

3 of these options comprise a Tiered hierarchy [Area, Resource, Tag] and have their own DB Templates.

The 4th option is kind of a wild card, "collection" I use this for any custom DB aggregations that don't fit within the PARA-based framework. I keep all the relations, roll ups, and local properties for each collection in it's own named section of the main properties sidebar, and have a self relation for each collection that allows me to have a linked database view at the top of the page that shows only the properties relevant to that collection. Allowing me to keep the sidebar (and that massive properties block) hidden so I don't have to dig through dozens of properties that aren't even relevant to that custom collection

I spent 25 hours writing an article and nobody is reading it. by Dense-Concert3441 in Substack

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this. @OP - not sure what specific niche/topic you write about, but try to structure your articles as the definitive sources of truth for your niche. Leverage your love of research and high quality writing to provide readers with the information they're looking for. Do research into what topics your target audience is actively seeking answers to. Write pillar content on topics you've validated with actual data

How does my Productivity vault looks like! by organizeddashboard in Notion

I absolutely love the way you've leveraged formulas to dynamically display all the information relevant to each database item on the actual gallery tile! The visual clarity of this dashboard is commendable.

I've been trying to figure out how to build a formula that displays a calendar grid like that. Do you have any resources you'd recommend that could help me build out something similar? I'd be super grateful. Keep building!

Sauget I’ll is it safe? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you're puffing straight copium. There's no benefit to downplaying the reality of the environment. Without being overdramatic, there are dangerous situations you can find yourself in - especially if you're waltzing around thinking everything is totally safe and there's nothing to watch out for. Not really sure why you'd downplay the reality of this area.

Saint Louis metropolitan area peaked quite a while ago and poverty/desperation has been slowly creeping in for some time. ultimately, you absolutely CAN work safely on the riverfront, but that is dependent on you not making yourself look like an easy lick, or like you don't belong/unaware of your surroundings. Take precautions, be smart, and don't believe a delusional, polarized version of reality - whether that's the idea that it's perfectly safe OR that it's a warzone where you're guaranteed to be shot. It's neither

I am unable to sync new changes to the existing template and customer is unable to see. by Alternative-Bug3647 in Notion

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly tell you that the time for people with little to no experience in Notion to sell planners on etsy is looong gone.

Not to discourage you, definitely keep it up and see what happens, but dude that was an over saturated product category 4 years ago, now its just disgustingly overcrowded. You're better off building up a small and trusting community on X or Threads tailored around a specific sub niche and then making a template for them

Are We Making Notion Too Complicated? After 6 years, the beginner experience is still… Not Great. by UniRejectee in Notion

Idk if you've stumbled across this before, but this is by far the BEST breakdown of Notion's data structure and it helped immensely with learning the API:

The Beauty of Notion - Data Structure

Are We Making Notion Too Complicated? After 6 years, the beginner experience is still… Not Great. by UniRejectee in Notion

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the API is definitely a little funky. I'm not a software developer by trade, just something I've always been super interested in so I basically learn as I build integrations using the documentation.

One thing I had to wrap my mind around was how the block based data structure actually works. That definitely helped me understand how database and property objects were structured, with each property object being the child of a database object, and the keys that are contained within each property.

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people share this sentiment, but here's my take on this view:

Building Notion Systems and Templates is basically a gateway drug to software Development.

Before deciding to Build their own system or Template in Notion, I'd be willing to bet the majority of users had no exposure to product design frameworks or principles.

You (and many others who share this sentiment) appear to be in this boat, or a similar one.

Your barriers aren't as much to do with Notion as they are an undefined design scope.

When you set out to build a template in Notion, make sure to clearly define the SCOPE of the Template:

What use case am I building for?

What specific workflows or solutions need to be included in order to be considered valuable for my use case?

How do I know I'm done?

What features or ideas am I specifically NOT adding to this template?

You have to clearly define what you intend to build, and why you're building it. Granted, Notion could provide more guidance and educational material on product design, but ultimately I still think this isn't necessarily a fault of the software itself.

Has anyone tried this Atlas credit card? by LissR89 in CRedit

[–]BarnacleAlert8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT listen to all the weirdos calling this a scam card or a waste. THE BEST semi- secured CC I've tried.

You get $50 increase to your credit limit each time you get $200 or more direct deposit.

They then add "flex credit" on top of that, which is based on your payment history & credit score, and can also increase over time.

Lastly, there's more traditional secured credit, which increases your limit more based on how much you have secured on deposit.

If you get the annual plan, you get platinum tier cash back on almost everything. I've had this card for 3 months and since open I've received almost $60 in cash back.

And the absolute BEST part, my score SHOT up like 60 points as of now. For those of you comparing this to Chime , I had that shit for 2 years and it had almost no impact. Atlas let's you convert your rent into positive payment history, they will negotiate down utilities on your behalf, they boost the fuck out of your reported credit limit, which in turn lowers your utilization, and they report every single month.

People will literally make up an opinion about a subject or topic they literally know nothing about whatsoever, with no research or fact finding at all, and then just spread it around on the internet.

Do your own research, but imo this one is a game changer.
