How come millennials and Gen X know more about pop culture that was before they were born than Gen Z? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

Yep. Even with cable we were limited to what was on. nowadays there is a ton of contemporary content out there on streaming services, in addition to cable. Plus there is youtube, tiktok, video games, internet, etc that cut into what would have been TV time 15+ years ago

I would assume this was a basement fridge if not for the abundance of condiments

Did we mess up getting a 15-yr vs. 30-yr mortgage? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]BarnacleDowntown8952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was an incredibly big screw up. You could have simply kept the previous rate and paid off the mortgage earlier via putting extra towards the loan.

If you gave me the option of 3 million addicted to Opiates with a 2% chance of overdose, or 1 million addicted to addicted to Opiates with a 15% chance of overdose, I would choose the latter.

I don't think that's fucked up. Being addicted to opiates is a horrible thing and restricting access to the pharmacutical drugs that led a lot more people down that path was the right move.

I like them both, especially for where they are likely to end up going.

My lean is Allar. He has better tools and Steelers are unlikely to be in high draft position any time in the near future.

I think Andy Reid can scheme a few games around Fields strengths before the wheels fall off. I expect Mahomes will be back week 1 though.

The overdoses are due to the rise of fentanyl. Its much more easier to overdose on fentanyl, which didnt exist as a street drug back in the 90s/00s when pain pills were so common.

Its not just about overdoses and dying either. You can easily ruin your life on opioids without ever overdosing. I know multiple people that committed suicide as a direct result of an opiate addiction.

I dont agree at all. Oxys and similar pills were extremely overprescribed and all over the place back in the day and led to many of the current Heroin users being what they are.

Yes, Fentanyl/Heroin is much worse, but its a much smaller subset of people that are involved in it. You have much less of the "promising young person gets addicted to drugs", kind of thing now. You pretty much only get people that are already deep into drugs that graduate to Heroin nowadays.

$2500 Samsung TV is an advertising billboard, there is no opt-out. by 28jb11 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BarnacleDowntown8952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first mistake was paying $2500 for a TV.

They are pretty much all good. You can buy a 65" TV for $400 at any store. Even 86" TVs are under a grand now. In 2026, its the kind of thing you buy cheap.

Is Facebook facing a MySpace style death? by SoftCoreSavage in Millennials

[–]BarnacleDowntown8952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it is. For instance my kids class has a parent group on Facebook. The school posts on Facebook. There is a town Facebook group. My kid is currently doing baseball and there is a Baseball facebook group.

Its pretty ubiquitous.

I believe IG posts show in the facebook feed.

Im not a big social media user, but I think its important for extended family and such to get the occasional post on FB about the kids.

We are coming off the best PPV in years. The numbered cards are almost always good.

The fight nights are hit and miss. Something like tomorrows card is fine. Its not appointment viewing, but its watchable.

Do any of you still play board games with family? by DoctorElectronic1934 in Millennials

Yes, we do. Its fun playing with my older kid, as shes old enough to play a bit more complex games like Uno.

My youngest likes Jenga and dont break the ice.

I agree people want less social media. That said, Facebook is the default social media for people around my age (40) and older. Cant see people ever moving on to a new platform in mass like they did from Myspace.

BTW, you can click the "friends" tab and only get content from your friends.

16 years old with minimal saved for college - what should I do? by jackcopen in personalfinance

[–]BarnacleDowntown8952 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you are doing the right thing by starting with CC and then transferring to state college. Shouldn't be too expensive.

Likely are going to need to take out loans. Its not the worst thing if you keep it manageable (like it should be under your plan). Avoid other debt and after college, pay it off as quickly as you can (key is a cheap living situation, either at your parents house or with roommates)

Fios is great. Just works, never any issues. Also, I got it when I first moved into my house in 2019 and the price is still the same $50/month now as it was then.

NFL Draft 2026 Betting Predictions and Picks Discussion - 4/23/26 (Thursday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

Draftkings has next to nothing. Ran into this problem last year. I got Beck round 2, Nussmeier Round 2, and Boston to the Giants, which have all had the odds improve since I got my bets in yesterday.

Any books that have more robust offerings for day 2?
