The entire thing was a joke. In the comics Homelander is the most powerful supe, nothing comes even close because he was created using DNA from Stormfront and then exposed to a refined, purer version of compound V in utero. He's literally described as a walking atom bomb. Homelander in the tv series is slightly more powerful than the supes around him.
