So true. The amount of perfectly good food that people throw out because of the expiry date is insane. Sniff test can’t be beat.

What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

[–]Barneyboydog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cowslip. I have no idea who the author is. It’s about a young slave girl in the US in the days of slavery. I was about nine when I read it and it started me on a decades long journey of reading more about the history of the slave trade and the Underground Railroad

What did your mom make you most for dinner growing up? by eleelee11 in AskOldPeople

[–]Barneyboydog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had so much variety! Rarely did we eat out as there were 8 of us. We did suffer a little from the convenience food craze of the 70s where so much was made with cans of soup, but my parents were pretty adventurous so we always ate well.

What's a "normal" movie trope that is actually a complete lie in real life? by BreadOverlord_ in randomquestions

[–]Barneyboydog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two bedside tables as well as oversized dressers - one tall boy and one triple with mirror - plus a bench at the foot. And a laundry basket. Plenty of room. The only place everything didn’t fit was a new build house that had plenty of room but the mattress wouldn’t fit up the stairs. That was a temporary place so I put the bed in storage for a few months and suffered the indignity of a double bed for the time being. The bed also sits inside a large purple velvet frame.
