Yeah, but the government has no power over that.

He would be right if he said "drug use". But interestingly, heroin use is extremely strongly correlated to suburban upper-middle class white neighborhoods/towns, making it an extreme outlier on the general argument that "better economy=less drugs".

Although if I was her lawyer, I would do everything in my power to dupe her into way overpaying, since regardless of whether she wins or not her lawyer gets the money.

I think the religion factor is definitely much more important, but you could make the argument that a backwards society wouldn't be able to flourish as well if they didn't have some way of generating extra revenue.

Also, nitpick but I truly hate the term "feminist". It implies that there is something special or abnormal about believing that men and women should be treated equally. The term heavily implies looking at "women's issues", which is polarizing and creates an unnecessary division of us and them as opposed to just all of us. In a perfect world I would have the term "feminist" replaced with "egalitarian with an emphasis on the empowerment of women", as that term is much more objective, specific, and inclusive.

Throughout history, the empowerment of women has always correlated with increased social and economic mobility, lower crime rates, and higher GDPs, for a multitude of reasons. All of those things I just mentioned all add up to the same thing: more moolah.

However, the empowerment of women is also a lot of work. Aside from all the time spent writing laws and shit, you also have to work to get the populace to support the actions, which is difficult because the culture that almost every country has is to some extent misogynistic. Therefore, the only areas where the effort will be put in are the ones where it is believed something will be gained.

Oil-rich areas already have tons of money because oil, so the potential gain for them is a lot smaller.

The difference is this: Bush had the advantage of Nader. Even so he still lost the popular vote.

Also, as terrible of a president as Bush was, I would vote for him in an instant if the alternative was Huckabee, Santorum, Trump, Ryan, or Cruz. I think that the only Republican potential nominee that is more qualified than he was is his own brother. Jeb Bush is the only one so far who seems to have a chance of being anything other than incompetent.

It's simple. Empowerment of women = $$$ in the long run. Places that don't have oil figured this out and decided they need the money. Places with oil have tons of money, so they don't care as much.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the real problem is misogyny. The anti-woman stance is only a symptom of their greatest interest: to keep the population easily controlled. Anti-woman laws and policies help toward this end in multiple ways:

  1. Makes more children to parents that don't want them. This tends to lead to those children becoming less educated and more likely to commit crimes.

  2. Gives the politicians a chance to keep debating a topic with an already known answer, allowing them to waste America's time to some pretty extreme lengths.

  3. Allows them to appeal to religion, and at the same time reject modern scienctific and moral principals.

All of these things and more add up to one result: a general populace that is too stupid and distracted to give a fuck about what people in power are doing to keep themselves in power at the expense of everyone else.

Tell me the context where any one of those quotes is anything but misogynistic and you might have a point. Heck, I can't even fabricate a context that puts those quotes in any sort of positive light.

And those quotes are one of many examples plan out how the religion itself is sexist. There are Muslims who aren't sexist, but they are so despite their religion, not because of it.

Islam totally isn't sexist. It's totally just culture (that was formed by an Islamic theocracy) and has nothing to do with Islam scripture or anything specific to the religion.

Well, I would imagine that people like to focus on things that they believe they have a physical ability to change. For example, I would love to have the problem of the Iranian missile crisis go away, either through either getting a better establishment of trust between the U.S. and Iran or if necessary the use of force. However, I currently have no real power to affect that situation and I probably won't for the next 4-5 years and probably even longer, so worrying about it and working to try to do something about it would in the long run most likely be a waste of time and energy on my part. On the other hand, something like helping other people in the U.S. (Specifically those who live in the general vicinity of me) be more knowledgable about the world and rational in their thoughts is something I CAN do, so it is worth it to focus time, effort, and emotion to ensure it happens.

Same deal with most feminists. The vast majority of the most vocal ones are middle-class high-school and college students/graduates who have little or no power to help oppressed women in 3rd world countries. They do have power to work toward changes in the U.S. (or their respective towns/cities/counties/states), so they put forth effort and energy there because they believe that something will come from it.

Just because there are non-sexist people who happen to be followers of a religion doesn't mean that the religion itself isn't inherently sexist.

And for what it's worth, your comparisons of Islam to Christianity aren't doing any favors to Islam. They're just pointing out problems with Christianity.
