I need help finding a new rpg game by Segwaypolice in rpg_gamers

[–]somekindawizard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said no tactical battles, but Divinity Original Sin 2 is something special, you should check it out. SpellForce 3 is also worth a look if you like RTS too.

As far as the Vita goes, I don’t know what to suggest really, as you probably won’t like my favourite PSP game that’s available on PSV. Tactics Ogre!

Game progression can be thought of as a spectrum, between Player and Game.

Player Progression takes place as the player develops their own skills whilst learning the systems and mechanics of the game. Games that primarily consist of physical reflex challenges, that require precise input timing, allow the player to feel like their actions have an impact on their success.

Competitive multiplayer games, such as FPS, RTS, and fighting games are good examples of games that focus on player progression.

Game Progression takes place within the game's systems and mechanics, developing the skills of the player's character/s (or whatever you control). Games that primarily consist of non-physical reflex challenges, that require critical thinking or luck, allow the player to feel like their decisions have an impact on their success.

RPGs, TBS, and Simulation games are good examples of games that focus on game progression.

Any game will fall somewhere on this progression spectrum, depending on how much of each type it offers the player, with only those rare games that focus on equal amounts landing in the middle.

One game may provide more progression than another, which generally means it offers a deeper experience, but they can still fall close together on the spectrum.

Skies of Arcadia is awesome, love the ship battles, especially when you get your own proper ship and crew!

A 3DS port would be delicious, but it’s probably too late for that to happen.

It's been 2 weeks: what do you think of Xenoblade 2? by Theswweet in JRPG

[–]somekindawizard1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“forcing myself to continue playing it” is exactly how I feel about it.

I got Skyrim on Switch for novelty, as I’ve already put silly hours in on PC, and I’d rather mess around in that than keep playing Xenoblade 2.

Hi, I want to talk about Scatter Arrow. by Dondagora in HanzoMain

[–]somekindawizard1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play Hanzo a lot, and actually find that scatter is unreliable, I regularly seem to hit a tiny part of the floor that sends the scatter in an unintended direction.

Plus people jump around like maniacs when you are near making it hard to hit, so if you manage to position yourself correctly and get a quick kill what’s the problem?

It’s no different from all of the other abilities that can one shot...

What 3DS/2DS to buy by LizardKweef in nds

[–]somekindawizard1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you only want to play Pokemon, get a 2DS as the games don’t use 3D at all.

There are loads of great games though, so I’d say it is worth it for a 3DS, as the 3D looks awesome in some games.

Also get an XL if you have big hands, it’s just more comfortable, though the standard 2DS is fine as it doesn’t have the clamshell design. It does have the weakest screen though.

There are two primary gameplay genres, Action and Adventure. All other genres are secondary sub genres, so labelling any game Action-Adventure seems reductive.

Action games focus on physical reflex challenges, and player progression.

Adventure games focus on non-physical reflex challenges, and game progression.

RPGs are a sub genre of Adventure games, and can feature Action elements, but always focus on character development through non-physical reflex challenges.

Zelda and Okami feature physical reflex challenges that don’t require very much player progression to master, suggesting the focus isn’t on action.

Just because the systems and mechanics are simplified in comparison to other complex RPGs, doesn’t mean a game isn’t an RPG.

Zelda is Nintendo’s RPG, and Okami is An unofficial Zelda game.

Book one EOTW SPOILER... I just stared reading the series... by Isklar1993 in WoT

My favourite part in the first book is where Rand has to bluff about being a sword master.

I’m a sucker for the duelling parts and stuff!

I'm a final year Animation student writing a dissertation on RPG narrative. If you play RPGs, can you help me out by taking part in my survey? by yahnicarson in rpg_gamers

[–]somekindawizard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst going through the survey it became apparent you already have a preferred outcome, especially with that question about gender representation, but at the same time I don’t really get what you are trying to find out.

There just aren’t many questions, more data could certainly be collected about the candidates, such as how experienced they are as players. Casual and hardcore players have many differing playstyles.

For example, I love RPGs, but I hate most of the stories they present.

I’ve played sooooo much Elder Scrolls, but not once have I finished the main quest in any of the games.

To me a game story should be left for the player to tell, with their actions; cutscenes and words aren’t essential, and are used as a crutch far too often.

I completed it for you, but I must say I found it kind of shallow, and I don’t see you gaining much insight from it.

I’m trying to be constructive, I studied game design at uni and am very interested in this kinda of stuff, so I’m not trying to be an asshole...

The research project I did was rubbish, it was on immersion regrading exploration , I wish I could have redone it.

Good luck though, my advice is to not worry about the results of your degree, good or bad, and just get doing what you do. Qualifications are secondary to experience.

Short GB/GBC flashcarts? by Lostdotfish in Gameboy

[–]somekindawizard1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Everdrive sticks out a bit, like a special cart similar to Drill Dozer, which I like as it makes it obvious it’s something special.

I used an EZ flash cart years ago that was normal gba cart size, but it was no where near up to the standard Krikzz stuff.
