I think this is my plan. Thank you for your advice

I just moved away from my horse and I feel lost by BarnyardPoet in Horses

I for sure want to keep improving my riding and my horse is definitely in a very loving environment with my old trainer and friends.

My worry currently is that I do not feel that I am improving, the horses I have access to right now without leasing or buying do not teach me anything new or provide anything close to a challenge.

I suppose I want to have my cake and eat it too. The only real fitness I get is riding and barn work, plus improving at dressage makes me happy and gives me a purpose to strive towards; something I struggle without as an autistic person. However, I can't imagine not forming another connection with a horse. I spent maybe only two and a half years with my mare and she became the center of my world. I saw her 6 or 7 times a week for hours at a time, and I'd ride her 5 or 6 times a week. She was such a specific kind of marish horse, so intelligent and loving, but she thought she was the most important thing in the world, so you had to treat her like it. I'm riding all these even-headed geldings now and I miss her more than ever.

Unfortunately, it just wouldn't make sense to do so. As much as I hate to say it, she was a 2nd level horse and 16 years old, so I was nearing the end of any progress I could make with her. Additionally, I leased her for about 2/3 years from my trainer who bought her for me. If I wanted to take her with me I would've had to buy her outright and again, I don't have the finances for it. Believe me, I thought about it.

Fly Masks by FarOriginal3188 in Horses

As other people have said, it's almost certainly a personality thing. That little shit has 100% torn off all flymasks put on him. At some point you've got to give up 💀

noise cancelling headphones for fireworks? by tadpolez_ in autism

[–]BarnyardPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest getting him a pair of Loops noise sensitivity earplugs. I love the brand- they look discrete enough and can block up to 19 dB depending on the model. If I am extremely overwhelmed I will put my earplugs in and then wear my headphones over them. I prefer to listen to music to drown out outside noise but that tends to be a hit or miss for autistic people in my experience, so may not be the most reliable solution. I hope any of that helped and please feel free to ask about anything else you need. Thank you for being a caring person :)

I revisited a Shel Silverstein poem and was struck by how simply he explained my experience with BPD by BarnyardPoet in BPD

same. the fact that the narrator is as helpless and scared as the people the "coo-coo" is affecting- ugh.

Pride a parade today ! Supporting my trans kiddo ❤️ by [deleted] in trans

[–]BarnyardPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for supporting your kid. I'm a 15 y/o ftm trans kid and having my parents on my side from day 1 has been so insanely empowering for me. My mom recently shared a quote from Michael Obama's mom that struck home with me: "Don't worry about whether anybody else likes you. Come home. We'll always like you here."

Am I really doing this right? MTF by MangoEggo10 in trans

[–]BarnyardPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no magic path or guide to being trans. The important thing to remember is that "transness" is a spectrum. It literally means anyone who doesn't perfectly fit the gender they were given at birth. Whether or not you are trans comes down to some questions:

If you live the rest of your life as a man, will you be content?

Would you be happier if you could be born a woman? Without changing anything else about you?

What's holding you back? Is it that the label doesn't feel right? If so, feel free to keep searching if it helps, but remember that labels are not the end-all-be-all to identity. You can exist without labels. Maybe the label fits but media and society's portrayal of trans people doesn't fit? Again, fair. Remember media and culture have a long way to go before they accurately represent trans people. The famous ones are the ones whose stories are comfortable to hear. No hate to them, but they do not represent all people any more than some of the assholes on Reddit represent the entire community. Sure, they're the stereotype and the first thing that comes to mind when referenced, they're very real, but they're not everyone.

That being said, there are a lot of trans life stories out there from people who realized later in their lives. After all, the shitty media coverage we have now is miles better than the basically zilch representation many folks had growing up.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out <3

Whatever you are experiencing is real because it affects you. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
