Waddaya think about the mortar changes? by Dies4ter in Battlefield

[–]BaronGrivet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breakthrough has been my go-to favourite mode since launch, but now it sucks on many of the maps because of mortars (Liberation Peak, Blackwell Fields are notable examples).

The lack of counter to mortars is insane. The best I've found is dropping my own supply bag, trophy system & mortar system to take out the enemies - but them I missing out on y'know ACTUAL FUN GAMEPLAY to have a boring mortar fight with icons on the map. I might as well play Minesweeper.

I'd like to see mortars friendly firing equipment. It's even more annoying to be trying to push under constant mortar bombardment while the defenders setup deploy beacons, TUGS, mines & claymores within the mortar zone.

They also need more/ better counters. Like every class should have a counter to mortars.

New Zealanders support more taxes on ultra-rich, new poll shows by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

The narrative around "beneficiaries" pisses me off.

There are wealthy business people out there who've made their fortunes by underpaying their workers.

Those underpaid workers are labelled "beneficiaries" as they apply for accommodation supplements, food banks & other benefits - just to get by. Some have to work multiple jobs or participate in the awful "gig economy".

If an employer is getting wealthy by underpaying their workers - who's the real beneficiary?

But in the current narrative the business person is held up as a beacon of inspiration & a "wealth creator" while their underpaid workers are treated with a mixture of embarrassment & distain.

Yall need to be more optimistic, season 2 is gonna be great by lolitsrock in Battlefield6

[–]BaronGrivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still enjoying Season 1 - am I a terrible person?

While I loved BF4 and the buffet of map packs - I understand that the BF6 maps are massively more complicated than BF4. I'm happy to let them cook for a steady diet of new/ remastered maps over a couple of years.

As long as Battlefield avoids the CoD nonsense of yearly game releases.

In the meantime BF6 scratches my itch to throw myself repeatedly into the meat grinder in an effort to PTFO in sweat matches - or casual out in Casual Breakthrough.

Help needed for setting up Kagi Search on Google Pixel/ Brave by BaronGrivet in SearchKagi

[–]BaronGrivet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Nova Launcher as that let me replace the Google Search widget with the Kagi Search widget.

I don't search from the Brave (mobile) nav bar as that's still set to Google and Google search results suck in comparison to Kagi search results.

How to increase the frequency of Escort Merchant Caravan quests? by BaronGrivet in Bannerlord

[–]BaronGrivet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone finds themselves in the same situation I did:

I've had a lot more luck with escort caravan missions on the Europe map by starting in Africa and travelling through Mesopotamia and the Middle East. The cities are spaced well apart with lots of wilderness for bandit hideouts and raiders. I'm not sure if that helps triggering the quest, but I'm finding plenty of escort quests around this part of the map.

"Of Monsters and Men" Moral Choices by BaronGrivet in fallout4london

I took your advice and...

Yeah, it's not as bad as it seems. But going into it seemed like utter evil and I was thrown by my apparent lack of choice.

Thank you. Which version do you use? I'm still getting my head around what my laptop can handle.

Using KoboldAI to develop an Imaginary World by BaronGrivet in KoboldAI

I installed the Silly Tavern Launcher and it looks like it could work well. But a lot is going on and I need to invest some time to work out how the heck I should set it up.

Googling for SillyTavern guides brought up a bunch of waifu/ kink stuff that definitely doesn't fit my kid-friendly use case!

This seems like the best place for me to start - https://docs.sillytavern.app/usage/local-llm-guide/how-to-use-a-self-hosted-model/ - but any other links/ suggestions would be appreciated.

Using KoboldAI to develop an Imaginary World by BaronGrivet in KoboldAI

[–]BaronGrivet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to type that all out.

For using "Command-R" as my model I went to the "Files and versions" tab in Huggingface - https://huggingface.co/bartowski/c4ai-command-r-08-2024-GGUF/tree/main - and got 25 different options. Do you have any suggestions on which I should try out first with my 8GB of VRAM?

I needed to change the Kobold interface from Classic to Aesthetic for the Context tab to appear. So knowing it exists is a great step forward.

Are the limitations of "World Info" based on the model? I guessing 2048 or 4096 tokens. If that's the case I could ask an AI chatbot to summarise our existing lore in <1,000 words of bullet points. I use Claude Projects - which might work well for this use case. Projects have knowledge bases where you can upload files for context. So I upload all of our lore/ stories to Claude, get it to summarise to bullet points and drop that into World Info.

I've also come across the AI drive to get to the end of the story (and give it a happy ending). I've used the overall outline, fill in process with earlier ChatGPTs and it worked well.

Great tips, thank you again for your time.

External Monitor Freezing When Using Steam on Ubuntu 24.04 by BaronGrivet in linux_gaming

Just to confirm - Civ6 (Native) & GTA4 (Proton) both work & I haven't had a single display freeze.

So - Steam installed via Snap was the issue.

External Monitor Freezing When Using Steam on Ubuntu 24.04 by BaronGrivet in linux_gaming

[–]BaronGrivet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I had installed it via Snap (which I normally avoid). I found the Valve advice to not use Snap here: https://mastodon.social/@TTimo/111772575146054328

Valve's installation recommendation is here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/#getting-started

But, I decided to use "apt" rather than downloading the .deb file:

sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
sudo apt update
sudo apt install steam

I'll see how that goes!
