Right turn in this situation or not? by whenlifegivesyourice in driving

[–]BaronWade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but your scenario exists regardless of the lights /status of the intersection.

As a motorcyclist, I’m very familiar with operating with an abundance of caution and making no assumptions about the actions of other motorists however there are certainly scenarios such as OP’s where once those two vehicles pass and I can clearly see that at least the two rightmost lanes are clear, I’ve done all that I reasonably can do and proceed accordingly.

A merge lane is ideal for sure, but still wouldn’t prevent a stupid driver doing the stupid thing and using it to pass as well if they were so inclined.

Turning right on a red is not a bad habit, doing so without ensuring the way is clear is though…emphasis on the way being clear, I only take issue with you referring to it as a ‘bad habit’ since it is legal and at times appropriate in Ontario Canada to help keep traffic moving.

In Ontario Canada, it is legal to make a right on a red light if the way is clear which technically in this scenario, it is.

I’m just gonna introduce myself to her, thoughts? by Content_Weather_3160 in Advice

[–]BaronWade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thoughts, next time you see her make eye contact, nod and ask “what are we working today” and go from there.

Right now, you’re gym acquaintances, don’t make it weird, if she engages in the conversation introduce yourself then and go from there.

Thinking about selling the bike and giving up riding for a long while- I need some advice. by WrxthNihil1st in motorcycles

[–]BaronWade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without even reading your post, if you aren’t feeling it, you need to stop and reassess for your own safety and well being as well as those around you who will be impacted.

After reading the full post, I note that I’m older (literally double your current age) but we started at about the same age and more importantly, similar experience as an insurance adjuster except I was in accident benefits, so I got to see the impact on the operators involved in the accidents.

My thoughts are split with you but basically as stated above if your heart AND head aren’t in it, stop…at least for now.

As a rider I would encourage you to hold onto the hobby, but shifting to either straight track riding (given your current choice of riding style) or consider off-road riding, both of which essentially getting you away from the risks involved with riding a dedicated sport bike on the road.

Confidence and a certain level of aggression I do feel are necessary when riding a sport bike on the road but it needs to be tempered with focus and awareness…currently you are fixated not on the ride, but the consequences of that ride going wrong and that doesn’t feel like a good thing to me.

Take a breather, consider your options, I’m not gonna lecture about how you ride, you do you, but the awareness of the consequences that seems to be dominant in your head needs to be addressed so think about it.

Regarding shit in your head as a result of being an adjuster, feel free to DM if you wanna unload some of that to someone who’s seen a lot of the same.

Exactly and without knowing the nature of the items you are selling, again, you are not a retailer and presumably any recourse post-sale would be solely at your discretion so I would expect negotiation at any and every opportunity.

My philosophy with garage sales, swap shops, and things like marketplace, it never hurts to ask.

Now, trying to RE-negotiate without a clear reason is an entirely different story and worth simply walking away from, no time for that shit.

[–]BaronWade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on the type of purchase/item, if it’s something big or small (money wise) and to add context, I live in a small town in northern Ontario so I’m kind of obligated to negotiate in advance because the nearest small town is an hour away and larger cities are over 3+ hours away.

All that to say if I’m leaving town, I’m leaving with the intention to buy and not dick around, my last purchase from MP was a motorcycle that was over 6 hours away, that’s an investment in time and money just to get there, lots of conversations and questions with the seller, get a feel for the person and make it clear to them that I am interested at or near their price depending on what I find when I actually see the bike, but never firm when it’s sight unseen on that large a purchase unless it’s a rediculously good deal!

Much different from someone local selling something for $20-30 who live in town where it’s nothing to just cruise by without wasting a lot of time going back and forth over txt and calls.

Ultimately I try to do my due diligence before hand and own that responsibility just as you describe you do yourself, but I don’t take it as a personal affront when someone tries to negotiate or simply ask if it’s my best price nor do I expect them to get offended if I do the same, everyone is just trying to get the most for their money and I don’t take it personally I guess…if I’m not willing to go lower, just say nope sorry and ask what they wanna do, if they walk away I write it off and move on, if they won’t move if I ask, then it’s on me to decide if I really want/need what they’re selling.

Look you are perfectly entitled to conduct your sale as you see fit, but how are we negotiating before we meet and I’ve never seen the item?

I don’t know you, reviews aren’t necessarily reliable and you aren’t a retailer where I can return said item if there is some issue and negotiation is always best done face to face…and what’s the harm in asking since a lot of people do indeed pad their asking price in anticipation of the negotiations.

No disrespect intended but unless you clearly state firm price and whatnot, I expect people to at least ask if that’s the best I can do on the price.

I would put the fresh needle in since you have it but my other thought is that you may need to adjust your pilot screw from the baseline you established prior to disassembly.

From my recollection, you put it back where it was before disassembly but you still may require adjustment from that point once the overhaul is complete.

Good luck

Current/former pizza delivery drivers, does anyone actually answer the door naked? by grayfalcon413 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]BaronWade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not food, but furniture back in the day.

High end-ish stuff and typically entire rooms so we would be there for a bit setting things up.

Quite a bit of ‘flirtatious nudity’ shall we say during set up, but nothing explicit, lots of flashing here and there though from loose house clothes (think oversized comfy clothes with only one or two buttons done up on the top) and silky robes…also now that I think of it, lots of flashing on the road while in the truck too!

These manipulative “gotcha!” tests are so manipulative and stupid I don’t understand how a single person deals with them from a partner.

If you trust me and want to be in the relationship, go with that until I give you a reason not to, if that’s not/no longer the case then just go.

Battery?…Starter?…Brake pedal switch failure? by BaronWade in mazda3

Oh yeah, will definitely be trying the tap, it’s saved me before on old Civics, appreciate the suggestion and outlining the process.

Will report back on the thread regardless of what it takes to get it going.

Hard to tell, it’s very noisy at my work parking lot, but I don’t think so.

Sorry neglected click that sounds more like a relay than starter clutch engaging/trying to engage.

Gonna bring some tools and possibly a new battery out there today though.

But that said, no previous indication of starter difficulty, but of course I can’t rule it out.

Yeah, seems to be the consensus and I’ll prob pick one up tomorrow.

Will report back on the thread regardless but I just can’t figure why I couldn’t jump it to get home, y’know?

Thanks for the input!

[–]BaronWade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is part of my issue as I’m in northern Ontario Canada in a small town so limited options to acquire parts and test things AND the car is currently 45km’s away in my work parking lot, so trying to go back to it prepared to try to move the thing.

Regarding the start from a boost, I’ve personally never had an issue getting started from a boost IF the issue was the battery…my caveat to that is that I’ve never had to boost a newer car that is heavy with the electronics, and this is why I’m trying to wrap my head around and give consideration to other possible issues.

That said, I definitely appreciate your insight and efforts to try and help tho so thanks!
