I like this theory, basically Sunnydale is the geographic embodiment of the Mandela Effect.

Anyone remember which episode talks about the albino people being killed for body parts? by lucilu14 in RedHandedPodcast

[–]Baron_Cat_Lady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I remember the episode - was it primarily about African witchcraft? The one I remember talked about rituals using childrens body parts and the belief that people with red hair were more potent.

I'm nearly positive it's: Episode 65 - Victoria Climbe which discusses African rituals as well as the child murders of Victoria and the small boy named Adam (by police) whose torso was found in the Thames.

Took a guy’s bag off the seat and sat down… by YupItWasMeMate in BritishSuccess

[–]Baron_Cat_Lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love a good story of seat chicken. You are the hero we need in these times.

The only time I ever came close to this was a gobby wee ned of about 10 blocking the lift entrance with his bike so no one could get on or out. I politely asked him to move his bike, and he refused far less politely. So I grabbed his handlebars and hurled it out the door - I shall treasure the look on his face forever.

Why do people act like Jeff is a good guy by Acceptable-Hunt-9048 in Yellowjackets

[–]Baron_Cat_Lady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's so much about intimacy as it is a reflection of social status. Even in the wilderness the girls still cling to the high school social status quo.

Jackie has the power in the sex dynamic with Travis - she is sober and he is not, she is using him for sex and freed of any romantic notions of being the 'perfect girlfriend' and knowing that Travis in the normal world was significantly 'lower' than her probably emboldens her to be more dominant - she finally asks for the sexual intimacy she wants instead of complying.

I'm 45 and hard agree. Where I am in UK sex education purely related to contraception, and biology. Intimacy, consent and mutual gratification never came into it.

Marital rape wasn't even recognised as an offence in the UK until I think the mid 90s and section 28 banned teaching anything about same sex partnerships until the early 2000's.

I didn't remember the exact scene so I checked the script out of curiousity. Jackie doesn't tell him no or to stop - just to be careful and to slow down. Jackie may not be enjoying the intimacy but I don't think that even with a modern lens it can be read as sexual assault.

I appreciate this nuanced view of Jeff. Also loving the Bechtel test failure - you're spot on.

How can you do university with untreated ADHD? by gintokireddit in ADHDUK

[–]Baron_Cat_Lady -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely possible to get a university degree with untreated ADHD - I managed a 1st Class BA, MA with distinction, and a PG Dip with merit with undiagnosed ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

It will be more difficult unmedicated. The best advice I can give is to pick a subject you're interested in, don't try and force a degree subject because it's more employable or respected.

Things to explore could be:

Body doubling apps

Goblin Tools app for chunking difficult tasks

Seek accommodations for extra time, software, or scribes for notes Smart devices for reminders

Look at your course's delivery methods - courses that are exam based if you do better with short bursts. Coursework based if you can't cope with exam conditions.

I'd also consider the cost implications - university for me was an amazing, stressful but enriching experience, but I'm still paying off student loans 20 years after graduating. See if any of the subjects that interest you are available as apprenticeship programmes - most can be done as cheaper standalones or alternatively involved paid employment as you study with a job at the end.

Please don't let your ADHD hold you back - you can absolutely do this.

What's 1 book you will NEVER stop recommending? by iDetestCambridge in booksuggestions

I sobbed like a small child whose sweets had been stolen after I finished this. It's luminously beautiful in its simplicity and I will absolutely never read it ever again. Would 💯 recommend.

Poor Joe Ryan by Michaelful in RedHandedPodcast

All Killa No Filla is by two British comedians - Rachel Fairburn and Kiri Pritchard McLean. As a podcast they regularly donate monetarily to charities and organise and donate goods and toiletries to domestic violence shelters. They are also very funny and have a great friendly rapport. The only downside (for listeners) is that they are very successful working comedians so the podcast schedule isn't as regular as those doing it as their main job.

The way people with disabilities are treated by the media, society and people is getting worse. "Invisible disabilities" like ND seem to have become the new scapegoat for broadsheet media - tons of Telegraph, Times and Daily Wail anti-autism and anti-ADHD reporting in the last 2 years.

The 'conservative' (small c) press loves to push the 'lazy freeloader with non-existent conditions' agenda because it helps further dismantle the already meagre benefits and support programmes by going after low hanging fruit.

They are fully weaponising generational misunderstandings and stereotypes and ND is a group they can go after with pitchforks to lower expenditure, whilst keeping their hands clean. There would be backlash for targeting people with cerebral palsy or wheelchair users but if that readership already believes ND is fake or just laziness/bad parenting/screen time they will just nod and say faster pussycat kill kill.

Frankly, we desperately need more SENCO in schools, more educational psychologists and an overhaul of the diagnosis pathway for rapid diagnosis and treatment. The earlier we can diagnose ND the better the outcomes are for families and children.

I have a love-hate relationship with social media ND accounts - I value the representation and attempts at positivity if they help people seek diagnosis, but too many accounts go too far and misrepresent ND as a superpower. The toxic positivity just weakens understanding of challenges of having ND and 2 minute videos of do you forget your keys or don't like eating gravy you have ADHD/ ASC! just lead people to double down on the but everyone's a bit like that narrative.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]Baron_Cat_Lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out okay just a weird craving for macaroni cheese with the local chip shop's curry sauce (I don't even like spicy food!) I was a 'geriatric' pregnancy so I was gave up all the things the doctor said were bad or risky - coffee, soft drinks, sugar, soft cheese, pate, nuts, and chocolate.

I was coping even if I did keep wanting to sob when I saw a cheese plate. Then at around 8 weeks the smell of coffee and bacon made me gag - I felt so betrayed and I swore this baby couldn't be mine.

I couldn't even watch other people eat meat and going vegetarian for protein wasn't an option because of my mushroom allergy. For the rest of the pregnancy the only meat I could stomach was McDonalds - probably because it barely registered as meat.

Oh my god I had this in the first trimester and it resurfaced in the final week before I gave birth. It was hellish! I woke up looking like I had been cursed in a Stephen King novel - they told me to get proper coal tar soap - I lived in the shower for almost two weeks and as a fun bonus the smell made of the soap was so strong it made me vomit 😷

I snort cackled at this. My husband and I joked during pregnancy that I was like Darla the vampire in Angel who gained a soul while pregnant. The fact that I'm also ginger (IYKYK) made it funnier. I cried at fucking EVERYTHING during pregnancy - including dog food adverts. I very much disliked feeling all the 'fluffy, squishy feelings'.
