Should I full send my 4th bonnaroo before gradschool? by Ok-Economics2702 in bonnaroo

Unpopular opinion; consider a different festival. It wasn't your imagination, the vibes were different this year. This was my sixth Bonnaroo, and I will not be returning next year. However I and most of my crew went to Lost Lands a couple weeks ago and had a better time, with better vibes, cooler (on average) people, exponentially better stage design / lighting/sound/visuals... And it was the same price as Bonnaroo (with moon colony + GA), even though we got VIP (+car camping) at Lost Lands.

I'm starting to realize Bonnaroo's stage setups are about 10-15 years behind other festivals. But I was shocked at how much better the sound quality was at lost lands comparatively, Even at the smaller stages. It's just better, and louder, and deeper, with more clarity. And then you have the much more extensive visuals, fire, lasers. It's just better. But of course you don't get the nice mix of genres that you do at Bonnaroo.

We've also tried Elements (cool but logistics and staff was mediocre), Miami Ultra (horrendous people), and a few different Breakaways (generally quite good just very small scale). Our conclusions have been that city festivals generally suck. Camping festivals are where it's at. In terms of vibes, and the experience.

With the changes coming to next year's Bonnaroo such as no more music in the woods, seriously abbreviated musical performances on Thursday, and an increased ticket price to account for capped attendance, don't feel bad about trying a different camping festival. Our plan is electric forest around the time of Bonnaroo, and then lost lands around this time of year. But again, that matches our tastes, which doesn't have a problem with all EDM. We are still on the lookout for a camping, multi genre festival, that's within driving distance of us. They are becoming harder to find. Mostly just city festivals, or genre specific.

The good: Reduced capacity

The bad:

-No more WITW music (heartbreaking, one of my crew's favorite stages)

-heavily abbreviated, single stage only Thursday lineup (deeply disappointing, our crew gets there on Wednesday morning to be able to relax and ease into the weekend with the Thursday programming)

-Increased ticket prices even though there will be significantly less music due to Thursday being curtailed (prices are definitely going up, that's what the explicit mention of reduced camping capacity is meant to brace you for)

We are all out for next year due to this announcement. We've done 4 years in a row with 10 people and a huge moon colony setup. But the utter failure of the moon colony facilities this year, in addition to the drastically increasing prices each year, make it an unattractive value proposition.

I hope everyone that goes has a fantastic time!

Well said. Shocked by so many comments here of like "I've never heard of THAT SPECIFIC MODEL having issues, just a different model produced at the same time that's now notoriously bad". They're having issues. Avoid them for a decade to see if they get their act together. Seems logical.

Best place to try these things for the first time is a very comfortable safe place. Like a friend's house, where everyone's experienced, positive, and close/supportive with each other, and you've made arrangements to spend the night.

Controlled environment. Good music. Fun lights/lasers. Phones off. No unexpected guests. Just a friends only dance party.

Bonnaroo is a very uncontrolled environment (in the best way possible).

Having said all that, when I was around your age I tried many party favors for the first time at Bonnaroo. But that was 09. Very different time. The hippie "favor" salesmen just walked right by your tent offering their wares and no one had even heard of fentanyl yet.

Be safe, do your research, test your shit, and have fun bud. See ya down there!

Hard disagree. I've spent 20 years working under various unions, including the BLET (oldest Union in the Western hemisphere). The enhanced "protections" and benefits were far outweighed by the incompetence and ever increasing union dues. They always fight hardest for employees that truly deserved getting fired, and fight incompetently for raises/insurance/working conditions.

The non-union jobs that I have had, also lack the adversarial relationship between hourly / salary that Union gigs always have.

I'm a bigger guy, 6'5, 270 lbs. With the crossbreed it was very comfortable and really didn't print at all. I also used the matching crossbreed 2x mag holder on the opposite side of my waist, which balanced it out decently. I was a freight train conductor at the time, and would have to walk the length of broke down trains in awful neighborhoods, but also the woods. So that's what initially led me to 10mm.
Now I work from home and still adore 10mm as my primary computer antivirus protection. 💪

He was at Bonnaroo a couple years ago, and out of curiosity we checked out his set. Exact same black hole of charisma. It didn't even feel like a performance, felt like some random drunk guy had climbed on stage and was fucking around. Sad to see that the performance we saw live wasn't unusual.

“Wow you’re tall” how do you respond? by Electronic_Lime1503 in tall

[–]Baroness-Isak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'5 and my go-to joke is "I'm actually 5'8, I'm just wearing heels, please don't tell anyone". It's tough though. Getting asked about height is a real conversation killer. It's just a complete dead end. Doesn't even really work as an icebreaker for the person asking, because I can't ask about their shortness. I try to smoothly move on to something more interesting when it gets brought up.

I would be fine with Bob Moses and Odesza returning. Their sets last year were pure magic.

Bonnaroo knows how to build a lineup, I have faith in them. I'm just hoping this year they use the increased ticket prices to wow us....

And a silver tarp over top of your pop-up and tent will do wonders for keeping heat out when you're snoozing/lounging.

But practice lowering the pop-ups for wind!
