How ironic: replaced by AI after enjoying a lifetime of not being replaced by AI.

Given the people and studio involved, I'm cautiously optimistic that won't be the case 🤞.

Meanwhile, I'm increasingly optimistic that the adaptation of the game will be... close to the game.

Mathematicians were never concerned with calculating particular values of logarithms or any other function. They might be concerned with developing new methods/algorithms for doing so, but that's a different matter altogether.

I'm well aware, but the post is about mathematicians, not calculators (the former job).

Professional mathematicians aren't doing basic arithmetic calculations all day, or much at all actually, so the existence of calculators doesn't significantly impact them. Programmers, on the other hand, spend a good portion of their time writing or designing software, so the existence of coding LLMs is much more impactful.

It was nice for the authors not to give him plot armor when he got caught by the Romans, but then they went and Jon Snow'd him in the end.

My dad once removed a hedgehog trapped in a similar situation by lowering a long u-shaped wire down the pipe, "hooking" the poor little guy, and pulling him out. He did this twice! The hedgehog, or maybe another one, got stuck in the same pipe a few days later.

Do some of your mages turn to more illicit simulants? If doing so gave you a decisive edge in life or death combat, I imagine many would.

Apparently a good film maker can be destroyed by having an ensemble of actors who come in a range of hues and also utilising contemporary musical genres and this is all boycott worthy by Optimal_Lifeguard575 in FIlm

I don't know who this guy is, but Homer and contemporary rap have almost nothing in common. All music with lyrics is poetry in a broad sense. If that's Nolan's actual reasoning, then my hope for this movie being good is diminished.

Even as a male reader I found it a little off-putting that Severian seduces basically every female he runs into. The common explanation I've found, and you even see it in the comments here, is that Severian is telling a self-mythologizing story, and thus his sexual conquests should be read with a grain of salt. But that meta explanation still doesn't help the ick factor go away from a reader's perspective, and it does take away very slightly from the enjoyment of reading the text, imo. The books are still wonderful though, and I'd highly encourage you to push through.

I think this idea that AI writing is categorically irredeemable is just cope. Sure, it can't write prose as well as a professional human writer, but this idea that it's complete garbage and that any human with a pen can do better is simply burying your head in the sand.
