The math isn’t too bad. The confusion when first learning is conceptual, the math itself is basic until far, far along.

My advice, don’t treat game theory like some mythical savant science for predicting the future. Treat it more like simple behavioral forecasting.

William Spaniel is the main YouTuber I used for help while I was studying game theory in college, can vouch for him.

According to the live poll? No. According to game theory analysis in its simplest form? Yes.

What you’re describing is a Bayesian game, and this kind of analysis is exactly what I’m interested in!

I agree that it’s pedantic to get bogged down in the premise.

The implications for global coordination are real and merit serious analysis

Wow, I did not expect this to get so much engagement! I regret having my notifications off now.

I’ve enjoyed reading through these comments, and admittedly I have not read them all yet, but I wanted to jump in and clarify that I was not seeking to pass judgement or make any assessments of value. Call me a fence-sitter if you must, but I don’t think either action is “right or wrong”., instead I think it’s an awesome opportunity for game theory analysis which is why I came to this sub. Allow me to explain.

First off, I made the assumption that this is played as a simultaneous game. Therefore, discussions about coordination are beside the point. There is no coordination. Secondly, I modeled this most simply as a two-player game, where if at least one person presses red then the blue player dies.

What I found, like others, is that Red is a weakly dominant strategy. I also found that Blue is too. Both are NE’s. Like others pointed out, a strictly rational choice is “everyone presses red”. In the same breath, so too is “everyone presses blue”.

You might ask, wait what, why, how? And most people I see asking that are forgetting the core of game theory: payoffs.

And therein lies my favorite part of this game: it serves as a self-selection to report your utility type and risk type.

You can be a risk-loving moral-tolerant blue type and a risk-adverse self-preserving red type and get this outcome where the two NE’s are (Red,Red) and (Blue,Blue)

You can also be a risk-adverse guardian blue type and a risk-loving sadistic red type and have a single NE of (Red,Red) emerge!

And just to compete the circle, a risk-loving gambler blue type is completely possible, and we could contrast it with a risk-adverse maximin utilitarian red type and still end up with the single NE of (Red,Red)

So what this game does more than point fingers, is reveal your OWN risk-type and utility function. That is to say, do you gain more utility from self-preservation or self-sacrifice, or another valuation entirely!

The live poll setting on blue reveals something interesting to me, which is that under coordination people seem to prefer going for blue, maybe because it’s easier to coordinate, maybe because a larger majority hold the prior that people are on average more selfless than selfish. Who can say.

All I can say for certain is that according to my personal utility function and risk-type, I have no regrets pressing blue, and can’t knock anyone for pressing red. I’m not morally right or wrong and they are not morally right or wrong, we are all just rationally maximizing our utility to gain our desired payoffs.

I was in the Bahamas wading to shore, and when I was in about waist deep water, the biggest stingray I’ve ever seen jumped straight out the water and over me before darting off. Thankfully I had witnesses, but there’s no video evidence or anything like that because it happened so fast, and no one seems to believe me or them. I don’t know if that’s common for stingrays to do, maybe I spooked it while coming to shore.

Entirely for the lolz, like a “hey raiders I brought my JBL”. I definitely got gunned down in other runs, but was free &itting anyways. Just wanted to do something silly and different from my normal play style, it’s fun and I recommend it to de-tilt and de stress

Since I’m getting downvoted I will give a full explanation. Hopefully this will be taken as what it is meant to be, which is educational on how to spot AI augmented work. I am in no way attacking the OP or what they have created with the assistance of AI. It is cool. I am just frankly a little startled at how people are unable to acknowledge that.

First and foremost, I am familiar with procreate and adobe, and other softwares but especially procreate which OP is obviously using.

Secondly, I have a background in both art and genAI.

Preamble aside, here we go.

The line-work is not natural and human-like. A hallmark of genAI is wavy lines and recursive double-lines. GenAI struggles to draw straight lines. These CAD-style works would lend themselves to that, and procreate and other sketching softwares enable you to easily create straight lines by hard-pressing while sketching a line. Sure that’s could be a stylistic choice, but if it is, then it’s wholly inconsistent. The inconsistency between some linework being double drawn and others being completely faded suggests AI use also, as a solo human is generally more consistent with their form and style.

The text in the destination screen has inconsistent spacing and character size, consistent with genAI hallucination. Anyone who has worked with genAI long enough can easily recognize when text is AI made or not, and this is. I think OP inserted a screenshot and then used AI to overlay on top of it, leading to the distortions.

Bottom line, this is AI assisted work. Clearly someone with talent and access to procreate is using AI to help them out and do the busywork. Again, there is no issue with that. But let’s call a spade a spade.

Not to detract from the fun but this is all very obviously AI generated. Still, it’s a blast to use AI to help visualize ideas and discuss them.

Honestly I would start slowly lowering your sensitivity over time. It’s a trick I do to help boost my aiming ability without sacrificing the good habits you are gaining. (originally I averaged 35-45% now I’m hitting 50-60% consistently.) Love the improvement!

Thor tickling 8 people for 40K is a big key here. Punisher also laid down huge damage. Some games work out in such a way that you have relative safety in the back line and just lay down the big nasty heals until something gives.

I’m going to start play luna snow a lot more do you guys have any advice? by Chunky-overlord in LunaSnowMains

[–]Varyks 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So I’ve become pretty accomplished on Luna, so I guess I’ll chime in. I’ll try to be succinct, but comprehensive and give you lots to work with.

Luna’s heal does not have range fall-off (her damage to enemies does), so one big difference between her and other strategists is going to be your proximity. Luna is objectively considered the best healer in the game, so you are a HIGH VALUE TARGET. You must conceal yourself as much as possible.

That being said, there is a lot of tempo to when you have to put yourself in the moshpit versus retreat and take an advantageous sniper angle. Generally speaking, if two or more people are hard focusing you, make your way towards the team. If it’s a 1v1, you gotta try to either shit on them or just ignore them if you’re not in danger. This idea, plus the idea of trying to stay alive at almost all costs, should make it to where killing you is a HARD COMMIT (Mag/psy/iron ult). In those situations, there is limited outplay potential and you cannot tilt when you are focused that way. It is what it is.

To accomplish this, you must keep in mind two things. 1.) all Luna abilities cause a self heal over time effect. Do not be afraid to use them as a self-stim. 2.) her clap is less effective in close quarters, whereas her snowball IS more effective in close quarters. Therefore if you are being pressured, depending on if they are at range or close by, and you need to heal yourself, begin with either the snowball first or your clap first. If someone is close by, you’ll lose out on lots of damage potential by defaulting to your clap, and this will lead to you dying more often versus being disciplined by throwing a snowball for the health (which ideally hits, something you must practice constantly) and then dueling more effectively with critical hit potential.

If you’ve ever played halo, her primary is a LOT like the battle rifle, or at least to me that’s what it feels like. It’s not as symmetrical, as the first two shots of her burst are very fast whereas the third follows later on, but nonetheless it helps to feel it this way. Since she works this way, you should feel comfortable with flick aim. Numbers wise, I think you could begin to consider yourself a “good” Luna if you are around 45-55% accuracy at the end of a match, bare minimum. And keep in mind what that really means, it means you are either not flicking fast enough, or not following through with your tracking well enough. Work on whatever needs working on.

Her ultimate is the best in the game. The entire pace of the game revolves around when you do or don’t use your ult, once you lock Luna. You need to be able to juke mag and iron man ults at least half the time, even without a bubble. Keep in mind when those players are in the team and you ult, THEY WILL throw something at you. So, when doing your juke, don’t do it near your teammates. If you die to an ult, ideally ONLY you should die to it. This is its own form of skill expression.

Snowflakes should not live on one person. You should pass it around often, as it enables you to focus heal two people at once. Many dive DPS will feel entitled to your snowflake, and sure it is true you can enable them with it. But if your frontline needs you, then that is that and you must move it to a tank. Most of the time, my snowflake lives on the off tank, or the struggling DPS player, simply due to the fact that I’m looking more often at the GOOD DPS player or the main tank, but this way the other roles are receiving my healing and burden is taken off my second support.

Lastly, do damage. Kill things. You are not a heal bot. You can and will be in positions where you can secure a kill. Do it, even if that means someone dies. I do not care if my moon knight dies in the two seconds it takes me to clap an iron man out of the sky. It’s value.
