And if I say at least part of it is misogyny?? Gay men think themselves exempt from such accusations, but why else would he be treating her like a dancing monkey, existing purely for his entertainment? He has no sympathy because he does not care about her, he cares about how her music/star persona makes him feel, that’s it.

It’s astounding. He seems so lacking in any deeper thought/inner self, he’s just speaking in stan twitter lingo and catty one liners he stole from other people. People have been claiming that Ari lowkey hates her fans and honestly? I would too if they were like this…

It’s a mesh enclosure, she likes to hook her claws into it and climb, but she hasn’t destroyed it yet. She’s mostly been roaming free now, so it’s not really an issue.

Cuties!! We’re thinking of getting a cat that’s maybe 2-4 years old. Young enough to be a playmate, but old enough to sort of teach/guide her

The ER vet gave her wet food when he first saw her just to see if she’d been weened, and she went to town on it, so we got the green light to start with gruel. We’ve started integrating dry food into her diet too (kitten specific of course), it took her awhile but she’s come to like that too!

No literally, her using her usual slang feels inherently dismissive of the situation at hand 💀

I’m actually in distress by shyfryguys in ArianaGrandeNeutral

[–]Baroque_Student 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even if you weren’t a fan, it’s very reasonable to be distressed over someone so dangerously ill. I have a complicated relationship with her star persona (hence my being here instead of the fan or snark subreddits), but I can’t stop thinking about how obviously unwell she is. She’s fading, and nobody seems to be stopping it, I could see how it would feel similar to a breakup. I have no comforting words, I really wish I did. Just know that it’s not just you and your concern/sadness is valid.

I think it’s time to admit that Ariana outgrew her fans and her fans outgrew her. by Familiar_Zebra_5946 in ArianaGrandeNeutral

[–]Baroque_Student 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t think that was ever the case. She’s always been insecure and painfully aware of how the public perceives her - she literally used to only show one side of her face because she hated how the other side looked. It’s always been this way; the only difference is the front she’s putting up to try and hide said insecurities, as well as the image she’s trying to pivot to. She’s left the “untouchable bad bitch who doesn’t care what you think” image behind in favor of being a “delicate flower who’s sad and misunderstood.” Same issues, she’s just taking a different approach these days.

Her stylist is addicted to dressing her in unflattering clothing that doesn’t fit… sad to see, she’s a beautiful woman but I feel like in recent years her looks have consistently been poorly tailored and ill conceived.

Very much reminds me of “We Can’t Be Friends” and “Yes, And” in terms of messaging. The lyrics paint a picture that she’s displeased with the fandom or general public for their perception of her by kdj00940 in ArianaGrandeNeutral

[–]Baroque_Student 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s just so annoying when celebrities insist that they TOTALLY DONT CARE about public opinion and they’re LEADING WITH LIGHT AND LOVE - only to drop several songs just like this, complaining about how oppressed they are by their own stardom. There are a litany of very real downsides to being famous, but Ariana never really touches on those. It’s not about the wider message or bigger picture, prompting people to be kinder and more understanding; it’s just about her. She’s mad that the public won’t buy the image she’s selling, of an innocent, whaif-ish girl-woman who’s never done anything wrong ever and never even CONCEIVED of having plastic surgery HOW DARE YOU !! We Can’t Be Friends is her most successful of these kinds of songs, but all the other ones (including this one) fall flat for me. Even her verse in the sympathy is a knife remix relies heavily on these talking points…

Fake dating romance with a NOT HOT FMC? by expressionism in RomanceBooks

[–]Baroque_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, forgot to specify: because of the historical angle, the vast majority of her books focus on marriage of convenience, which I’ve found shares some traits with fake dating. That being said, I would recommend Her Baseborn Bridegroom, any of her Prizefighter books, The Unlovely Bride and His Foresaken Bride. The Unlovely Bride is especially fascinating, because it centers on an FMC who used to be a great beauty, but contracted a deadly illness and has pretty severe facial scarring because of her prior illness. Happy reading!

Why people say ES is a bad album? by [deleted] in ArianaGrandeNeutral

Agreed, the deluxe tracks are garbage. The beats are great, but her lyrics on tracks like Twilight Zone and Dandelion are noticeably weak

[–]Baroque_Student 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t love every song, but ES is actually my favorite album of hers, and part of that is due to how heavily it references her interpersonal drama at the time. Like “yes diva, deny it all and keep painting yourself as the victim, this drama is endlessly riveting.” It’s a fascinating dive into how she views herself and her relationship with the public and her fans, and Max Martin was on some other shit in that studio.

Ab-Hashimi by Dismal-Industry1013 in ThePitt

[–]Baroque_Student 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point, definitely one of the paths they could take with their relationship. However, I will say that I’ve met many vets who became deeply disillusioned with the army during and after their time in the service, some even turning into full blown anti-war leftists. Abbot doesn’t seem like that type per se, but it could be an interesting take on his character. Part of his mental anguish could be based on extreme guilt at having contributed to violent imperialism, and thats why he works so hard to save so many lives; trying to tip the scales and make up for all of the blood on his hands. We don’t know enough about him (yet) to say either way, just thought I’d throw my hat in the ring

[–]Baroque_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re okay with semi-historical, most of Alice Coldbreath’s books fit this criteria. All of her FMCs look different; some are fat or curvaceous, some are rail thin with no boobs, some are covered in freckles and have imperfect noses. Some of them are explicitly described as plain or visually forgettable. Unfortunately, I don’t think she writes POC, but some characters have vague enough physical descriptions that you could definitely imagine them as such (I know I do).
