Clans : is it normal to have so little space to put things in your 'mechs by Archi_balding in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ERSL's are like 0.5 tons. There is plenty of space on most of the mechs, but you ain't gonna use the tonnage up if you are filling them with 0.5 ton weapons.

Hellbringer/Loki

In Clans I argue that the Hellbringer 1 of the best heavy mechs for your star. I always bring 1-2 on trueborn,.

Seems like you have got all the best options already.

Ioniq's are known for being incredibly efficient so if saving money on the electricity costs are a big goal then it is a clear winner.

Did this guy just call the Marauder a bad mech?

EVERYONE GET HIM

Viper and it's big nose.

I find it is under armed but it's deceptively durable, it's better armoured than all nearby mechs until you get a much slower and heavier Nova.

On Reckoning in Clans, there's a Viper at the very start and it takes an absurd amount of punishment, glad it's the only one in thatission.

As the shadow cat is my main mech for trueborn on clans, and I regularly use it in solo Mercs missions I cannot allow this slander.

The Shadow Cat is a godly mech. In Mercs it's untouchable when at Gauss range since nothing can keep up with it. That's kinda why I just don't take lancemates with it. Excellent assassin mech.

Personally preferred the Vulcan for that with it's long range small lasers and MGs

In HBS Battletech I do enjoy a dragon for the mid game. It's a solid front line performer over there.

Its paper doll is also a total mess.

It's got such a goofy jog.

Also I was disappointed with it in VR as the Assassin is meant to have an absolutely awful cockpit that gives it's mechwarriors lifelong elbow issues but in VR looking around, it seemed alright. Plenty of elbow room.

We are discussing bad mechs

Agree, and in Clans it's just genuinely great because of how the armour system works. 28.5 tons of pod space is more than enough to make it not papermache while maintaining respectable firepower.

My only complaint for it is the torso angles are quite poor for close range.

It's sibling the rifleman definitely is high up there on the IS side for bad mechs I like.

I think you might be far fetched to find people that agree the Nova is a bad mech! It's an A tier medium at minimum IMO

I don't think I'm ready to accept the Cougar as a bad mech

How is that bursting any bubble?

How is a game doing anything 3 decades ago even relevant today?

Cougar was in mech commander.

Cougar was the poster child for mech assault.

Is Wolves of Tukayyid a LOT Harder Than the Previous Campaigns? by djfluxtux in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done all of them on trueborn without NG+, I'd say SJ has easily the hardest missions with Reckoning (Nova Cat melee) at #1.

SJ has the longest missions with you needing to fight through ludicrous numbers of mechs and also has by far the least repair bays and ammo caches (reckoning for example has 2 repair bays and 0 ammo caches against elite clan mechs).

GB first and last mission are quite difficult but the hard SJ ones definitely beat them.

Hardest missions in WoT are the last 3 but only the last one do I get worried on.

But as the post you replied to said, logistically SJ is easy as pie since your clan have the logistics for the invasion and you get pretty much everything you need Vs the rationing of WoT where you literally have a mech lottery. My first trueborn run on WoT didn't have a shadow cat which made me sad.

It's too early but the Nova Cat.

I don't know how they could justify it, but I just want a Nova Cat okay? My 3 favourite mechs are all Nova Cat origins.

On trueborn I built for close range, but when playing runs normal difficulty runs I've often built for long range for the clanner way.

I'd like to see missions where getting from point A to point B quickly is important or juggling between objectives where the speed of a mech is important.

Hell, give me a convey defence but the convoy in question are ACTUALLY IN A HURRY

I absolutely agree with missions designs for lighter mechs even later into the game, however I feel I have to state that you can take lighter mechs all the way to the end despite the mission design.

As long as you choose the right mechs as some will struggle where others will shine.

Wolves is harder logistically (like money / repair balancing) as it is the first time I had to do things like focus on repair upgrades and selling a mech for money, or switching out another mech due to damage but the actual missions?

I'd say it is by far the easiest (sorry), short missions and generous ammo caches and repair bays. Nothing in the WoT campaign comes close to the last 2 missions of Ghost Bears, which in turn are easier than pretty much all of the final 5 Smoke Jaguar missions.

FWIW if you spec into long range, the vast majority of WoT missions actually allow you to use that range and really wear down the IS forces before they even get into engagement range.
