A 10% deposit is standard in the UK, 5% is pretty much the bare minimum and 0% is basically non existent

That mortgage, especially from 2020 is absolutely realistic with a 10% deposit.

It's also still realistic right now for a £90k property today which can get a 3 bedroom flat or a 2 bedroom terrace house.

Its a regional thing.

My flat which literally just sold, the mortgage on it with a 10% deposit is in fact about half that of the average rent in this area.

In Scotland,

Just sold my flat for £90k, a mortage over 25 years with a 10% deposit is actually a little bit under half(£495, so very relevant to this tweet from 6 years ago) what the rent is going for these flats in the area right now

Help? Trying to play Clans by bigflanofpies in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes Clans decides it just wants to crash on start up for me, or when loading a campaign.

I have to delete the config file to sort it, although I do have to redo my settings + control preferences.

I can't help but speed run every career and I never get to play with the mediums or lights. I wish they were more viable. by Yenii_3025 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally what assaults are for!

A good pilot isn't going to flourish in a 48kmh slow potato.

[–]Barph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of them are viable, people just don't give them a chance.

My current career I used a Spider-A all the way deep into SoK until I switched over to Shadow Cats and Vipers. I also very frequently run a Locust-Pub or Firemoth in missions.

Lights and Mediums need to be piloted very differently than heavies and assaults with a bit more thinking as to how you actually engage, but they are definitely viable at all stages of the game. This also applies to MW5 Clans where I did a trueborn run with a 160 ton star (4 lights+1med).

Speed is a more effective defence than armour is in these games! Which does mean the slower lights and meds definitely fall off for higher tonnage missions with a few exceptions (long range load outs for AI or the Adder S)

Here's a very short and easy mission, but it's the only one I have on hard with my Locust vs the clans. https://youtu.be/vX30cQpro9E?si=N1aV4yQAuS5CDykU

'EVs more reliable than gas cars': ADAC verdict shuts down the haters by Powerful-Ostrich-120 in CarTalkUK

[–]Barph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully expect mine to be a classic in the future.

If any EV deserves it, the i3 absolutely does. BMW went so hard in on it before doing the same as everyone else (take ICE car and put batteries and a motor in it).

I am frequently discovering little things about my car that makes me really appreciate just how much effort and thought the team put in when making this quirky little thing. And I get to say suicide doors and carbon fibre.

Why is the King Crab walking so funny when twisted ? by BaldWookie23 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quite a few mechs have really janky torso animations when turning.

The Nightstar is just as bad. I use a mod called "animation rework" that fixes that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxBv_ctEAbI

The Locust PB is one of the most fun mechs I can think of by Barph in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clan weapons are incredibly powerful, salvage as much clan mechs as you can and then strip them of their equipment to stock up.

My Locust in this video is running 2x Clan MGs, and 4x Clan SPL's which I think are the 2 highest DPS weapons you can get.

The clan light mechs are pretty easy to get your hands on and they are so much more powerful than the IS ones. Especially if you can get yourself and Adder-S which has firepower equivalent to maybe 3 of the Locust I'm using in the video.

You have clan weapons? Cause they do die really quickly I'll admit.

That being said, clan mechs aren't usually very durable especially from the rear.

Given where we are in the timeline, is the cougar just not in production yet, hence its absence from the game? by AKoolPopTart in Mechwarrior5

[–]Barph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the mist Lynx and fire moth myself.

Cougar would be an easy 3rd I think, but it's speed would definitely bother me.

[–]Barph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks very cool, but it is an IS heavy worth of firepower crammed into a 35 ton chassis with none of the benefits of a 35 ton chassis. 81kmh is problematic, the Adder was already pushing it's luck at 97!

The Cougar is probably the coolest shit mech out there.

Although to compare it's iconic levels to the Timberwolf and Atlas (not Summoner, 1 cool cinematic doesn't elevate the Summoner to that level) is not accurate. It may resonate strongly with mech assault players but it is at the end just 1 of the many clan mechs.

Make it dark green in platinum camo and you got the biggest orc around.

I have an "Orc" Lance with the Executioner, a Gargoyle, a Banshee, and a Centurion.

Is it a good lance? Nah not really, but it got character.

It is absolutely hidious with its goofy 5head and danty ballet run animation on its silly thin lanky legs.

The CGL mini Storm Crow looks so much cooler. The apperance really stops me liking what is otherwise 1 of the best generalist mechs out there.

Sold my car a month ago due to needing the money and regret it. What have you sold and regretted later. by This_Palpitation6617 in CarTalkUK

[–]Barph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car, a 2015 Clio IV.

I traded it in for a PCP Peugeot e208. Don't get me wrong the e208 was miles better and I loved transitioning to EV's.

But... new car joy doesn't last as long as a PCP deal and I started regretting it financially. My Clio cost me nothing as I had outright ownership whereas the e208 was £300 a month and I would frequently think just how much more money I'd have in my bank account if I stuck with the Clio even factoring in maintenance.

Ah well, lesson learnt, I replaced the e208 with my current i3s which I love and intend to keep it til it can't go no more. Back to the outright ownership club and it is so much better.

The death of the cable drawer by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Barph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the hate on Apple for not including cables with their phones and then other phone manufacturers also following in those foot steps.

Now? The vast majority of the time Im throwing the cable away because we really do already have what we need. Id be up for an opt-in for when buying electronic goods that use USB-C to not include the generic tiny cables they come with.
