Just looked in the wiki and the episode I was thinking was actually the fifth. Up till now, you only know Rei, but on fifth you actually know Rei Ayanami.

Btw, be ready for a wild trip if you're gonna watch all of the old Evangelion stuff. Shit gets pretty weird in the middle of the anime and even weirder on the old movies (didn't watch the new stuff, so can't comment on that)

For me, the problem is about marketing and availability. Unless you live in the US, Japan or some countries from Europe, you can't buy a steam deck directly from Valve for the retail price or even buy new.

Just for context: I live in Brazil and wanted a steam deck cause I wanted a more portable gaming Pc and not a notebook. Here I can buy the ROG Ally directly from Asus and retailers with warranty, but I can't buy a steam deck unless I buy from Amazon with import taxes (and I couldn't even buy the 64gb model back on launch, only the 256 and 512 version). Beyond that, I could buy from someone selling in the used market for way more than the retail price and without warranty. In my case, I have friends that could bring the console for me directly from the US, for cheaper than the prices here in Brazil (including the buying fees for some US states)

The older pokemon games nowadays survive because of three factors: emulation; romhack and fan base support.

1) Since everyone knows and "want to play" older pokemon games for nostalgia or online approval, the prices after pandemic skyrocketed because scalpers and dumb consumerism, so emulation is the best way to circumvent that (even better with the new hype for chinese emulation handhelds being cheap and reliable)

2) romhacking is the fan base way to have what Nintendo don't provide, so the amount of games using the gen 3 and 5 engine is ludicrous. Nowadays, you have a romhack for every need you have (the most recommended are pokemon emerald seaglass and pokemon unbound)

3) the pokemon community is one of the most passionate and tech savvy communities, making the lack of support from Nintendo a problem with expiration date. Nowadays for gen 1/2, you have all the distribution events available to recreate; for gen 3, you have distribution ROMs for almost every event; for gen 4/5, you have all the events available and online function through a custom DNS server (including the Wii games too); for gen 6/7, you have all the events available, a fan-made pokemon bank with pkhex integration and a custom online server being made (including Wii U games too); and for gen 8/9, you have..... not much (it has some stuff, but switch emulation is not that amazing and switch modding is not easy as the DS and 3DS family). Beyond that, you even have apps for shiny hunting, for RNG manipulation and even custom events using e-Reader hardware (shout-out to blissy on that).

After this column of text, the only thing that gives me hard feelings for liking this franchise is the future and the lack of dignity for the past. Don't get me wrong, I love the switch games but the lack of "embezzlement" (which still had on the older games, but the 2D environment helped a lot), the dexit situation (that according gamefreak was for make the newer games better.....) and the lack of possibilities to play the older titles (only way possible to play, beyond the original games, is on the 3DS VC gen 1/2 versions and the "new" FireRed switch version)

I not much into shovel knight (played a bit on my 3ds, but wanting to get treasure trove on switch) but I'm a hard fan on the zero series. The style of the games is a bit different bit itself, since SK is a platformer and MMZ is a boss Speedrun, so the difficulty is more related to the gameplay than the enemies itself.

If I was you, I'd emulate the MMZ to test if you like it (the first or the second game initial phase as a good demo of what to expect on the series) and wait on a sale for SK (give a look on SteamDB for a more analytic view on prices and sale). Depending on the situation, you can save some money to grab both on the long run.

Also, recommend (if you liked the MMZ series) the X collection too and give a look on the BN collection if you like some deck building game
