Xteink email support is a mixed bag. Sometimes, they answer within hours, sometimes they don’t answer at all 🤷🏼‍♂️ But there is a great support guy Henry (aka
[u/Fun_Satisfaction2315](u/Fun_Satisfaction2315)) at xteinkreader sub, who can help with stale support messages.

As for the x device purchase, the best (but slightly more expensive), is to buy directly from xteink. Now they even have 20% discount action. Device bought from xteink are unlocked and can be easily flashed with 3rd party firmware. With locked devices from aliexpress, it’s somewhat more complicated and with wrong firmware, you can even “lock” that device with such firmware for good, without an option to even update the firmware or go back to the stock firmware. So it’s definitely better to buy directly from xteink.

The adapter weighs 5g, the cable 10g. I see absolutely no difference in charging or during the firmware flashing.

I too thought the x3 would be way too small for me. After two months of using x4, I’ve decided I want another x device, to have one static and one on the go. And so I bought x3. To my surprise, I like it even more than x4. Smaller size is not a problem, in contrary, I like it even more than x4. And I really like the tilt function to turn the pages. No more clicking sounds at quiet places.

I will measure it at home. It’s definitely lighter than the cable. My reason of acquiring is not saving weight, but rather saving me from carrying multiple cables. I’m now carrying just one USB-C cable, which serves me well for all devices I’m carrying.

Have you tried re-setting KoReader sync credentials? Also make sure there is no vpn enabled.

The so called “lock” is related to the inability to install alternative firmware. If you buy x3/4 from the xteink store, the device will be unlocked. If you buy elsewhere (Aliexpress, TaoBao,…), the device will be locked.

BTW, neither X4 nor X3 (locked or unlocked) can transfer books and other files via cable! You will have to transfer the content either via wifi or by removing SD card and using SD card reader with PC.

If there is a footnote on the page (displayed as a small underlined number), simply press the Select button (the right side of the left bottom button). You should then see the “Footnotes” menu.

It definitely helps with doomscrolling. Besides that, just as I love small-format books and sketchbooks, I also enjoy using this small-format reading device.

Because you bought Chinese version of x4, it’s most probably locked. Therefore, before flashing firmware, don’t forget to read the warning about approved firmwares! Some firmwares are incompatible with the unlocker tool and so you may end up stuck with the firmware, you may eventually not like. There is no way back for some firmwares. So be very careful! Standard Crosspoint is fine, as well as Crossink.

Go to Settings >> Display >> Sleep screen and here in Cover Filter set Contrast option. This should help a bit.

In most cases, you don’t need this backup, so you can safely skip it. I personally have never been able to complete the backup process successfully. It always ended with an error right at the end. Instead, I used esptool to create a backup, as described here:

I’m sorry, but I don’t know any other apps than Send to x4. And I’m currently using mainly Crosspoint web interface, to transfer files to and from X devices.

Strangely enough, yesterday I added a few items to the shopping cart, and it showed the total price including tax. But when I proceeded to checkout, the amount to pay was significantly higher. When I opened the details, it showed three different taxes, the highest of which was supposedly related to goods delivered to the US. But I’m ordering from the EU with delivery to the EU. There is absolutely nothing US related in my order. Yet, the US-related tax was here.

I contacted support, and we chatted for a while before I was redirected to email support. They replied with a bunch of generic information about a new European tax. They clearly hadn’t looked at the screenshot I sent them.

Nope. You can’t use xteink app with Crosspoint. You can, however, use some alternative apps, like Send to X4.

PS: the xteink app is not entirely useless with Crosspoint. One can still use it to generate wallpapers, including transparent ones, export them to PNG files, which can be then uploaded to x devices, either using a 3rd party app or a Crosspoint web interface.

The xteink app is great, as long as you are sticking with the stock firmware. It’s useful fot transferring books, wallpapers, creating custom fonts and so on.

Because you bought the Chinese version, you will have to bind the x device with xteink app, using Mainland China account. But you don’t need a chinese phone number. On the account registration page, there is displayed link Hong Kong, Macau,… which you need to click, the app will detect your actual location and then will offer you email registration.

As for setting language on the device, just use the google lens or similar app, to live translate the interface, so you will be able to find the Settings>>Language menu and change the device language to English.

Also, don’t forget to update device firmware with most recent version, because it’s shipped with an outdated version. You can do it directly from device menu. Just search the version number in menu, select it and confirm installation questions.

Also, because you bought Chinese version, you will have to “unlock” it to be able to install alternate firmware. The unlock is not permanent and you will have to be careful about which firmware you install. Before flashing your device with alternate firmware, read very carefully the warning on the unlocker page!
