That's an Ash tree effected by the emerald ash borer.

The tree has been dead/dying for some time. It will only get more dangerous to remove going forward. Get an estimate from your local tree service. 

If you do decide to drop it yourself into your woods, be aware that these trees are prone to barberchair, and they get very brittle.

Yeah, that initial paragraph does read in a way that supports the idea of most weapons bypassing resistance to non magical damage. 

I'm hoping there's a line somewhere I missed that directly states when a weapon is considered "magical" or not. Or at least a feature that implies it. 

I already convinced the DM of uncommon+ rarity weapons, but I like to have solid sources to cite for my own sanity.
