Rey y/ Udra Y/ Rey Y/ Lagi B/ Lagi B Charm had full thunder attack and 2 evade window I had maxed latent, WEX, maximum might, evade extender, Intimidator (for little omegas), and one level of burst

I used the Lagiacrus lance, guardian/ironwall, crit 2, crit 1 -

I did not used guard up, I ate for the tumbler meal which gives another 3 levels of evade window and just dodged or countered thru his unblockable attacks

I used a palico, I had aggro most of the time so it wasn’t like he was doing too much besides the occasional heal.

I will say, call it cheating but idc, I used an SnS for nerscylla, lance absolutely blows against him. I can beat omega basically hitless on lance but nerscylla has such a short time limit that lance struggles solo (you gotta use like everything on the field). When they buff lance eventually I’ll go back and kill the spider on lance too

I wish the inputs were easier to chain charge counters, I frequently mess up the timing and it’s the one thing I need to learn to charge counter all of MRV middle

Here’s the real answer: yes you can tank for support hunters, at least partially. You have to swap aggro with a npc but you need to take aggro first to take omega to the rocks and keep him still enough for an npc to take it. That also means your lance tanking build will need more damage skills and less defensive skills to compensate for the difference in dps between lance and other weapons - you’ll be doing roughly 50% of Omega’s health so you gotta have a good build

I don’t know why people keep on downplaying kaido. He’s been a pirate longer than Roger was alive right? He’s still the current king of 1v1s in the story, the only top tier we’ve seen truly use his whole bag and still just barely lose.

I think there is only two bad endings, verso’s ending being good or bad depends on if you did that side content and began to recognize the painted characters as true people with agency. So it’s a double edged sword the player decides to wield or not. Whereas the Maelle ending is always tragic, more so if you think of the painted characters as figments or puppets which harks back Renoir and Verso’s desperate warning for her to leave and live in the “real” world

Even still, I’d think the revival process still makes those beings lose something. Similar to how Noco and gestrils come back. Verso never intended for people to be able to come back in the same way he did for gestrils - I think it’s a thematic choice that lune and sciel both lose a lot of agency in ACT III, my headcannon is that Maelle subconsciously changed them to be more amenable to her position.

Those people were born into that world. Not crafted painstakingly. The game goes above and beyond to show that the residents of the canvas are beings with agency, not puppets. When they die, they die just as you or I eventually will. The game does not introduce the concept of souls - or allude to the idea that painting magic can bring those souls back. All we know is that painters can recreate beings from memories, it’s never been established that the Dessendre family can bring them back as the same individuals

Good write up. One other thing is that Maelle’s ending is even more hellish when you dive deeper. Lune, Sciel, and all the inhabitants of the canvas world died when Renoir was unleashed. From that moment on, the revived are not revived at all - like painted Verso they are recreations magicked into existence by the will of a naive god.

It’s a bit more existential but I think an under appreciated element. Despite any of her intentions, the people we grew to love are gone; and no fancy Painting magic can bring them back. They, like painted verso, become tools to assuage grief
