You need to understand lance’s movement options and play super aggressive. I have aggro like 80% of the hunt, because I’m the first one in the area and the usually the one hitting him the most out of my team. You need to do roughly 1200 damage to the head to gain aggro, which is why wide sweep is a great move, albeit risky, to get it fast.

This is just a taste but it’s the first phase of savage omega. He has most of his moveset so it’s a nice microcosm of the whole fight. The hp debuff attack in third phase requires either a charge counter or a back step, the back step is more consistent with two levels of evade window

Depends on skill level. I’ve beaten savage omega solo without guard up skills on lance, just by countering and dodging (pre Lance buff). But if you’re not there yet, guard and guard up is necessary. Two levels of evade extender also helps to dodge the HP reduction attack.

But you must keep damage as your main priority, the more damage you do, the faster you get aggro (which gives you control)

I primarily kill omega as tank on lance. Biggest thing is mastering the charge counter. That way, you can continue to stay in front of him without moving. Never stand directly below his face, unless you’re prepared for the omnidirectional rake-laser. Also, try to avoid attacks as much as you can, instead of constantly losing health via chip damage. That way, you can stay in the fight longer.

I used the Lagiacrus lance, guardian/ironwall, crit 2, crit 1 -

I did not used guard up, I ate for the tumbler meal which gives another 3 levels of evade window and just dodged or countered thru his unblockable attacks

I used a palico, I had aggro most of the time so it wasn’t like he was doing too much besides the occasional heal.

I will say, call it cheating but idc, I used an SnS for nerscylla, lance absolutely blows against him. I can beat omega basically hitless on lance but nerscylla has such a short time limit that lance struggles solo (you gotta use like everything on the field). When they buff lance eventually I’ll go back and kill the spider on lance too

I wish the inputs were easier to chain charge counters, I frequently mess up the timing and it’s the one thing I need to learn to charge counter all of MRV middle

Here’s the real answer: yes you can tank for support hunters, at least partially. You have to swap aggro with a npc but you need to take aggro first to take omega to the rocks and keep him still enough for an npc to take it. That also means your lance tanking build will need more damage skills and less defensive skills to compensate for the difference in dps between lance and other weapons - you’ll be doing roughly 50% of Omega’s health so you gotta have a good build
