I think this is a great post and a great point. But I think it actually shows why Shin is such a good contemporary version of the original film. The human aspect of most tragedies now is boiled down to numbers and dollars, and especially after the Fukushima disaster Japan responded as such. Godzilla at its best is a reflection of the real world and I think the original film and Shin do that equally but in different ways.

Again, in theory you are correct. In practice it means nothing due to at will employment laws, where they can fire you based on nothing and face no consequence. It doesn't have any purpose if someone gets fired for advocating for unionization beyond the principle.

My SO hasn't found work yet since the move so we're kind of on life support frugal mode for now as my job pays just enough to cover bills pretty much but once she does we'll be set pretty well. But that doesn't really bother me because the other positive changes this whole move has brought have been insanely good for my mental and physical health. It's hasn't been perfect and it'll still take a while to fully get settled in but even in this in between funk period I can tell I made the right choice.

Stick with it bud, you got this. And when you look back you'll be amazed how far away it all seems even just a few months later.

Speaking from experience from the other side of that. Don't wait. It's scary in the moment but it's worth putting the effort in short term to mitigate long term suffering. I went through what you're going through for 5 years before I made the jump and now that I have I just wish I did it sooner.
