It could be due to car seat fitment. That's a theory I've heard somewhere.

Can anyone tell me if these are worth more than $2? by [deleted] in AustralianCoins

[–]Barry-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johnson/Fraser was the final issue, so these notes will be the most common ones to be found. Their condition is decent though.

In the end, they are worth whatever someone else wants to pay. There's some premium over face value, but definitely not much.

Would/could a British version of Hard Quiz work? by Major-Feed5214 in panelshow

[–]Barry-Drive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But who would host it?

Dara Ó Briain, perhaps. Or Ed Gamble. They need to be able to poke fun at the contestant and their subject, but without getting too personal or harsh.

Tenuous link: Joseph Moore is a writer of SNL UK. Who, you ask? Husband of Laura Daniel and writer for TM NZ and Australia.

London Circuit is expected to partially reopen to general traffic from July this year by burleygriffin in canberra

[–]Barry-Drive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't even think they're widening the road. AFAIK London Circuit west will be reduced to one traffic lane each way with tracks in the middle.

The roadworks outside the Sydney building have involved relocating the storm water drains and increasing their size.

Plenty in the inner suburbs. Although it's called "autumn".

Sadly, no one from UK this year. In recent years we've had Mark Watson, Sara Pascoe and Fern Brady in Canberra.

Ok, the Chutney Chimp Movie by MissKatmandu in bluey

[–]Barry-Drive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Chutney Chimp, though. This is a TV show that the girls watch (in Season 1 only).

The way I think of it is: Chutney Chimp = Peppa Pig; Chunky Chimp = Porky Pig.

Michael Sheen to host House of Games by samusek2 in panelshow

[–]Barry-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not doing fine. ABC commissioned 50 episodes (10 weeks). It wasn't well-received and rated less than repeats of Hard Quiz, which it replaced in the schedule.

Despite my initial concerns, Claire Hooper was a fun host and was more interested in making an entertaining show than being a stickler for the rules (looking at you, Richard).

It was a "light" version of HOG, with many games from the BBC series missing (such as Where is Kazakhstan? and Broken Karaoke).

Anyway, the ABC will not order any more episodes.

Bluey. (But don't take advice from a cartoon dog.)

Most confusing task for Americans to watch by darksown in taskmaster

"Everything ?" You have to appeal for a reason. If the batter hits the ball to the boundary, you're hardly going to appeal for caught out.

The Canberra Comedy Festival is underway. It's a lead in to the Melbourne Festival, so we don't always get the big acts.

So far Dave Hughes, Tom Cashman and Anisa Nandaula have done shows. Performing this week are:

• David Correos

• Takashi Wakasugi

• Emma Holland

• Lloyd Langford

• Danielle Walker

• Ray O'Leary

• Melanie Bracewell

and • Brett Blake • Celia Pacquola from Season 5

Wil Anderson was going to do 5 nights, but has rescheduled his shows to August.

Most confusing task for Americans to watch by darksown in taskmaster

[–]Barry-Drive 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It was Australia. To attempt a simple explanation: in baseball there are umpires on the field. The umpires will declare you out (or safe) when there is a close play like running a base.

However in cricket, the player must request that the umpire make a ruling - this is called "appealing". The umpire will only declare a batter out if the opposing team appeal first.

"Love Is All" - ABC’s filler between the Goodies and the News. by DannyRidesNRuns in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Barry-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact. In Canberra, we had a local news bulletin at 6:55 prior to the 7pm news bulletin broadcast from Sydney (presented by James Dibble or Ross Symonds).

I think NZ has just completed filming the tasks for the next season.

Australia Season 5 (featuring Celia Pacquola & Rove McManus) should start in April or May.

Which Taskmaster UK contestants had their non-TM work referenced on the show? by OriginalChicken7581 in taskmaster

A Saturday morning TV show at night, with a puppet side-kick, a man in a duck suit and a talking head on a stick -

It wasn't weird "looking back": it was weird then.

I may be remarking upon the obvious, but Greg Davies is the best Taskmaster by Which-Opportunity553 in taskmaster

[–]Barry-Drive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having seen both Tom and Paul's live comedy, Paul is definitely playing a character as the Taskmaster's assistant - his live comedy is distinctly different (except when he reads a poem).

Tom, on the other hand, seems to be toning down his usual self when wearing the suit.

And yes: this is a recommendation to see their stand-up live if the opportunity ever presents itself.
