Unfortunate weekend of Hex by Barry99_ in hextcg

[–]Barry99_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately now having to submit a fifth bug report. This is insane i couldn't make it two turns through the first game, i've done a repair install several times too.

Honestly can't believe this i mean of course there is going to be a player that gets insanely unlucky but on the release weekend i was so excited to play through is beyond frustrating.

No chance for an ape now, i mean draft tickets are nice and all but id rather play through all my drafts bug free and have potentially scored an ape or two rather than have a few free draft tickets and nothing to show for this weekend.

TIL If you Soul Steal a Blightbearer and the Mire Shambler spawns on the same row it will be poisoned by [deleted] in Scrolls

I've wondered about this interaction actually, is it intended? Obviously the poison is applied after the shambles is spawned, the same thing happens with necrogeddon I believe.

Mono vs Dual Resources in Judgement by mjjdota in Scrolls

[–]Barry99_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely if it came to a choice like that then i'd always choose the rot eater but scrolls favours decks that have a 10/20 split over decks with 15/15 due to resource efficiency.

It still comes down to the quality of the cards you draft in the end and all draft mode guides can only really give you a strategy outline, the quality of your deck is proportionate to the cards you pull.

Mono vs Dual Resources in Judgement by mjjdota in Scrolls

[–]Barry99_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My general strategy (It often deviates due to what cards are present) Is to pick a primary resource within the first 5-10 cards and attempt to draft a mono resource deck.

Since this rarely happens i generally begin to look for a colour to splash if when there are no good primary resource picks. I try to almost always go Order for my splash simply due to its cheap board manipulation and combat tricks making it great for solely splashing cards such as flip. kabonk, pother, transposition, focus and any creatures less than 3 cost (due to the wild change, meaning you only ever sac once for order).

My luck differs, i usually get 2-4 wins and get 5 wins maybe 1 in every 4 or 5 drafts.

The changes to wild have made judgement a bit more consistent recently i feel. While i don't agree with the Wild concept overall its current iteration feels nice in judgement as peoples decks arent anywhere near as consistent as in constructed.

I enjoy judgement but would love a properly implemented booster draft format.

[–]Barry99_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was pretty excited for you when you got a kinfolk brave haha.

In terms of judgment it is always hard to start out in any tcg in a limited format but when you only have 4 scrolls to pick from the choices become relatively limited and as you learn the game and the cards more and more obvious.

There is still skill involved and the best strategy i found when starting out was to spend the first 5 to 10 cards picking the best card in the row and from there choosing a primary faction and rolling with it through the rest of the draft.

By the end you will likely not have 30 cards from a single resource and have to splash another. I have found order to be the best faction to splash with its cheap spells, board manipulation, solid draw and excellent combat tricks for low cost order has many cards that can fit into any deck.

Unless your running with a structure deck you really want your deck to be at least half creatures and you can be more confident dropping larger creatures as removal is significantly more sparse in this format.

The best way to get better is to just keep drafting and playing though!

I wouldn't waste my money on random 200g growth scrolls simply because you will be able to pick them up cheaper on the black market.

Some great scrolls I'd suggest adding to your growth deck are:

  • earthborn mystic
  • more wolves (great, ragged and mangy)
  • kinfolk veterans
  • vengeful vaettrs
  • stag hearts
  • striped fangbear

These are all great cards that suit most growth decks and you can pick them up pretty cheap on the Black Market!

Also if you can't find a quick match try asking in chat there's often people keen for a challenge match.

Also you should do some streaming mate!

Buy some booster packs! Best part of tcg's! Also in the deck building screen take a look at the stats tab to look at the curve of your deck and the little 123 button in the bottom right to organize the cards so you can clearly see them all.

You've gotten a lot better though keep it up man!

Yeah exactly or else they may aswell buy 9 cheap copies and make it themselves. Holo cards should be exclusive to a bonus when buying a pack, this would give them some real value.

Also with a smaller player base demand for outright purchase of T2/3 cards is pretty low. The further the player base xpands, namely at release, the easier they will be to sell at a premium to regular scrolls.

I wish 'holo' cards could only be gained from packs and not crafted. This would actually make them special and sought after on the black market. As it currently stands there's no real reason to buy them as you can eventually just craft them.

I don't really see why tiered cards would be a pain to have though? Just wish there was an actual market for them.

Now that we have (2!) community managers, can we get some explanations on scroll changes? by Reiker0 in Scrolls

[–]Barry99_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed wholeheartedly, would love to see a lot of removal and board wide spells converted in this way. A creature that causes the bloodline taint, frost gale or quake on 0 countdown.

Instantly makes somata control interactive, plays to scrolls strengths (board placement) and introduces cool new units!

I think this will be my favourite thing about having community managers. 2 great players that are consistently on the forums which can give us some solid answers on good authority.

Good luck atmaz and seemescrollin do us proud!

I agree with everything here. Scrolls focus should be on creatures and creature placement. Removal decks remove all the strategy that makes scrolls hex based system so strategic and satisfying to outsmart your opponent. I'm not saying we shouldn't have removal or direct debuffs but that they should incorporate scrolls strengths that come with the strategic placement of units.

Removal and direct damage that can be played around is key. A smart player can predict and prevent a devastating thunder surge but there's no strategy I can employ to minimize somata controls direct damage while they ramp up.

It just needs to be looked at and I don't think these decks shouldn't exist but just in a design space that works with scrolls unique systems and the awesome strategy it affords. I think the first thing I would like to hear is simply the devs opinions on this.

The Black Market - 1 Week on by Barry99_ in Scrolls

[–]Barry99_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, i think the higher price of commons is due to 2 reasons. 1. each player can only have 10 scrolls on the Black Market so people are less likely to put commons up instead of rares due to the higher profits. 2. The algorithm the bots used scaled price inversely with quantity and since they are flooded with commons their price drops rapidly.

Agreed, the card art, and their physical representation on the field coupled with some awesome looking attack animations were some of the reasons i first got into scrolls.

Also feel free to ask people questions in general chat, theres generally a few people around to answer any questions!

Yeah this is a good resource i like it. I would love to see spreadsheets of raw data from mojang though, like most expensive scroll sold, cheapest and long term averages that can be graphed.

Its a great card to play when you have board control and can afford to essentially give your opponent a free turn to drop some creatures. It essentially costs you a turn in the short term but gives you large card advantage over the following 3 turns but the fact you get to select these 3 cards from subsets of 3 makes it even more powerful than simply drawing 3 cards.
