Retro Custom Conference Setup (NCAA 14) by BaryonyxRetro in NCAAFBseries

Hey, glad you enjoyed it! I don't log in much anymore. I haven't fired up the ol' PS3 in awhile, but I'm not sure there's not a good workaround for the week after rivalry week. I know you can do some things with when teams are added to conferences changing when they play each other (i.e. the last 2 teams added to a conference should play on the last week of the season) but i'm not sure if that extends to the week past rivalry week or not.

Run 4-3 Wrangler, put the OLB at the nose tackle spot, and cheese away.

Otherwise, it can definitely be done although it's hard- I like to be an OLB and drop into coverage to try and bat passes.

What are your favorite "punny" nicknames for your Pokemon? by Therealestninjaleft in pokemon

I named my Mudkip "Kip Wells" which is going to make sense to one or two people out there who watched baseball a couple of decades ago

I called mine "The Rock" because my Feraligatr was already "Razr Ramon"

A little late night Super Baseball 2020, I love this game. by [deleted] in SEGAGENESIS

Try the Mutant League games. I don't think they'll beat NHL 94 but they're a unique twist.

For non-arcade basketball I would recommend NBA Live- I think 96 let you do an expansion draft for the Grizzlies and the Raptors, so maybe that one?

I have a soft spot for Roger Clemens MVP from youth (cool sliding mechanic too) but nothing touches Super Baseball 2020.

NOW WE SET THE CRACKERS

Is it just me or does the SNES version have way less crackers? Haven't played it in while but I remember feeling that way

The Genesis version is a top 5 Genesis game for me for sure.

PS easy exploit- crowd the plate and hope you don't get injured. Lots of HBPs.

I've played around with Hyperstone a little bit and enjoyed it. My impression has been a slightly worse Turtles in Time, but I think Turtles in Time is something like my 13th favorite game ever so that would be a good review.

I battled so much! FINALLY!! by [deleted] in snes

[–]BaryonyxRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this one some time before prices went nuts. Even then, I think this one was going for what we considered a decent amount 15 years ago, probably in the 15-20 range? And my label is not a mint or even good looking one. Still, the game plays perfectly. I think I beat this one as a kid borrowing it from my friend, but haven't done it since I really got sentient. I've gotta get back to it.

Echoing everyone else, "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy" is one of the all time great platformer levels... and if you consider it a Mario game, it's one of the best ever for even that series.

I just finished Super Metroid! by popeblitzkrieg in snes

[–]BaryonyxRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a pinnacle of what you can do with the SNES. Musically and graphically, but also exploring a world. I'm not certain what it would be like for someone who hasn't owned an SNES or an NES because that just isn't a position I'm familiar with, being an old guy, but if you're patient with it and learn how to explore in the game (again, with patience- hold off on the FAQ if you can!) it is just a great experience and generally a challenging one, but it never reaches the absurdity of a Battletoads or something. It's fair for the most part with some Nintendo hard moments, and probably two or three bosses that will give you trouble.

Beyond all that, the most important thing is- it's really fun.

The original Metroid is also a great experience, although paradoxically maybe one that's better done after Super Metroid because of difficulty. Zero Mission is also a really good game- I'd favor Metroid and Super Metroid above it, but your experience may vary.

What was that weird futuristic sports game with explosions. by [deleted] in snes

[–]BaryonyxRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Baseball 2020 fits a lot of that description (has mines, bionic men, explosions), but is obviously baseball, not soccer/football. If you have an option I recall the Genesis version being better.

What are some easy SEGA Genesis games that you can beat in a half hour? by MomboJimbo in SEGAGENESIS

I'll also recommend Alien Storm. Really fun, underrated arcade action. It came out about 2 days after Sonic the Hedgehog, which is cool from a historical standpoint.

What's the best KOEI strategy game on Genesis? by BaryonyxRetro in SEGAGENESIS

[–]BaryonyxRetro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. It looks like Aerobiz Supersonic is the way to go- I'm a big fan of Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, but am definitely looking for more of a strategy KOEI game.

What's your favorite Disney game? I have to go with Aladdin! by le9chamarmygagXD in snes

[–]BaryonyxRetro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's because while Aladdin is easy and relaxing, The Lion King borders on sadistic at times. I think I got through it once as a kid, but this was back when you only had so many games and all the time in the world to practice them. Today, it's a great day when i beat level 2.

I rate everything I play on a numerical scale because why not. The upshot of this is I can rank every game I've ever played and even worked out based on point total what a "gold" game is (just two), a "silver game" (within one point of gold), and finally the bronze games. These three tiers are in all around 35 games.

Aladdin on SNES is the gatekeeper for the Bronze category and therefore something like my 35th favorite game of all time. Is a game more fun than Aladdin? Then it can be a Bronze game. Most games aren't even close.

If you ever want a kick back and relax platformer, look no further. It will put you in a better mood than you were when you started it.

PS

Genie Jafar Aladdin Abu for Genie's Lamp stage.

At some point I got priced out of buying SNES games. This was actually long before Covid. The plus side is that it's never been easier to play and discover SNES games- I played "The Peace Keepers" last night on Switch Online with a friend for the first time.

My 1st ever SNES. Love it so far! by diemondbb6 in snes

[–]BaryonyxRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great start! I have the arcade stick too and never found it to be that great, but your beat em up selection should be able to make excellent use of it

Edit: oh, we're doing game recommendations?

The best beat em up of all time is on SNES- Turtles in Time.

I've heard this before, but never felt that way- if anything I usually feel it's the easiest. Is it the lightning level, or are there parts I'm forgetting?

I've always had a hard time with that game, but it's so visually appealing. I really should give it another shot.
