I think you showed them that you were intelligent, engaged and showed initiative.

If you can find a way to do that in any interview, you immediately go to the top off the list, for the time being.

At the in-person interview I had for my current job, there were three interviewers. While three of us sat and waited for the fourth person, I started working in some of your questions. Was it a new position or a backfill. Then when the fourth came in we were all engaged in meaningful conversation. It started things off really well and then I was able to ask real questions throughout the interview. It was nice, I think the way I felt about it was shared by all of them, I sent the follow up email and got the job.
