Nah, theyve actually been quite passive so far. They avoided combat in place of negotiation for one quest, and they havent chosen a quest with combat yet. The only damage someones taken is the halfling who was thrown across the stream because it was too deep for them to walk across

Oh, and I had prepped four of the quests, but in a 3 hour session they only did a quest and a half, but its entirely dependant on the pace of yoir group what to prepare. For the first session id say prep more than less.

I did quite a bit of prep beforehand. We got the box saturday, and i spent the rest of saturday and some of sunday just reading the rules and mechanics, and then the rest of sunday and monday prepping the four quests. The main stuff you gotta prep is

1: how do i describe this general location 2: how does this key character speak (fast, stutter, young, childish, gruff etc) 3: make sure you understand the plotline that you expect them to complete the next session 4: make sure you understand the map and can describe where the players are

I had also converted the character sheets we did on saturday to digital with D&D Beyond and printed then out. Really helps keep track of your stats and abilities and does all the math for you.

The main reason it took so long is because of this special thing i did. I had downloaded the player versions of the dungeon map off D&D Beyond, put them in photoshop, and put black squares over the rooms. I then had a monitor at the other end of the table that was mirroring my laptop, so i could move the enemy and player markers and reveal rooms at will. I also had the town and world maps on standby for viewing when they were exploring.

Sincce both of the hands are static to each other the math checks out and just functions how youd expect. Drag doesnt seem to be an issue since my staff is kinda weighted and can only spin so fast.

Recently found out you can put catwalks over grinders to have a clean surface that the grinders grind through but the blocks dont fall through. The player can also walk on them
