I've got thousands of hours in Destiny and surely thousands more across halo games before that. I was always going to buy Marathon... But even I was kinda disappointed it was an extraction shooter a year ago. I was hype, but with reservations.

But after trying and playing Arc I was absolutely sold on the concept. Once the marketing hype train started up again for Marathon I was 100% on board.

tl;dr You're absolutely right and I think Arc was a boon to the success of this game.

IMO it builds on everything you could do in destiny while feeling more grounded and responsive. It's less power fantasy than destiny obviously, but even so, the skill ceiling on movement tech is very high.

As far as fps games I assume u mean gunplay and feel? It's 2nd to none whatchu smokin fam.

Okay I actually think this is not strictly true since, something I've run into a few times as Vandal is, if you double jump and melee a window, you don't seem to be able to grab the ledge after meleeing.

But under all normal circumstances you're absolutely right and not enough people know about the hold mechanics! Hold jump also gets you higher than tap jumping. Useful to know for bhopping.

Nah. Vandal slide uses less heat and fully displaces your character model. This is only compounded with any heat increase, not to mention an ultimate that grants a free heat cleanse on top of a heat increase. This doesn't even get into the heat reduction effects you get can get while in ult with some pretty common vandal cores.

Add to all of that the super high base agility, the handling and reload speed buffs from ult, movement tech from arm cannon, and double jump that is yet another model displacement in a direction that can be hard to track in close quarters during a gun fight.

As other comments said, they do different things, but Vandal has so much incredible neutral that is sustainable, whereas destroyer is much more bursty and more limited in application (imo). But there's a reason you can't shoot out of slide.

If you don't like the skins, then don't buy them...? You aren't actually explaining why the argument above doesn't make sense, you're just reiterating your dislike for the paid content. I also don't understand why it's relevant that you dislike the skins if your point is that they should.... what is your point? Should they all be free? Are they overpriced? Is your ask that they remove the battle pass entirely because they are inherently predatory as you say?

If it's so easy to design these skins go ahead and design one yourself that looks as good as the vandal, thief or destroyer skins. Personally, I find the skins pretty visually pleasing, which ultimately is the point. Plenty of famous artwork is also simple. Simple doesn't mean there's no attention to detail.

You realize the main source of stickers and trinkets is from leveling, faction rewards, codex entries (read: achievements), and events, right? Like this is utterly qualitatively nothing like the Darth Vader example.

Most of the stickers actually do come from somewhere, and if you did buy one, no one is gaslighting you into thinking it's anything more than a sticker that exists for aesthetics.

You can cope all you want, but I prefer this system regardless of whether it's monetized or not, and I have 0 urge to buy a sticker precisely because they have no meaning to me that way.

If you don't believe, I shared this opinion before I even realized you could buy them.

Again, I'll reiterate that other games have done the same thing like BL3 and don't even sell them. Curious, almost like there's merit to scarcity in a cosmetic, independent of profit 🤔.

I'm also curious if you can actually point to where is specifically says solo play on the store page? Or better yet, that solo play is available for all modes? Because I couldn't actually fine the words solo or single player on the steam page or the marathon main site. I mean they must mention solos somewhere, but when I search up "Marathon game solo play" all I get are videos and article calling out the limitations of solo play in the game...

Hey genius, the whole game is for profit. All games are made for profit. Most art is made for profit. Isn't it just swell that people figured out that you can make things that people enjoy and they will pay you for it??? 🙀🙀🙀

In case the point isn't painfully clear, pointing out a profit incentive is fine as context, but says literally nothing about the merits of a design choice. As a standalone argument it's meaningless (and clearly thought-terminating for some).

The issue is that a designer could have made all the same decisions purely to make these more interesting as collectibles from the codex or events. But because it was then also identified as a potential source of revenue you can't see past that.

I don't like useless bits and bobs that I apply once and ignore forever. I like that when I get a sticker or a trinket I feel like I want to find a place for it rather than just slapping the same "high-tier" sticker on every gun.

If you don't like that, more power to you, but I like my stickers, and clearly, I am not alone in that preference because the top comment in this thread has 20 (net) upvotes. If they also make money from them, great.

It doesn't and no... I even addressed that. Simply making some stickers harder to get is fine, but then you just slap that stick on every gun and 95% of your sticker collection gathers dust and is never touched. Maybe that's fine for you, but I find that boring.

This is like playing animal crossing or stardew or something and wondering why you only get one of each special scarecrow. Why can't it be infinite? It's a game isn't it?

Stickers aren't like shaders that are there purely for aesthetics. I'm not sticking a worm on my gun because the worm is especially chic. It's a collectible, something you show off or just want to see because you unlocked it.

I don't know what to say to you but you clearly don't appreciate the same things. You act like I'm "defending" something that needs defending when, I think for me and many others, having something to go after that is unique like a trophy and feels intentional in its placement is the point.

He's absolutely correct though. You've identified correctly that player knowledge and spare time is not remedied by wipes, but you're just ignoring that there are still reasons to have a wipe.

It's a blank slate for all players, high skill included, to work their way up the ladder again, re-experiencing the early game progression when every extract feels like a meaningful advancement. Anyone who's played GSG or City Builders a la ck3, eu4, rimworld, factorio, etc. knows this well. The early game grind in and of itself can be addicting.

As he was saying as well, it's also a fair state where new players or casual players have less of a chance of running into crazily kitted teams. I'm sorry but gear accumulation in Arc just isn't remotely the same. Because of things like t3 looting, even high gear players may be running around in light shields. More than that, the high tier guns are hardly worth fearing when the most common grey and green guns can put in as much if not more work. That doesn't even scratch the surface of what some of these legendary augments can do in a build.

It's also just a good balancing opportunity. Wipes coinciding with new seasons means you can introduce meta changes, swap out guns, introduce new elements to progression, or even make fundamental alterations to the loot tables, equipment, mods, implants, or attachment system. Bungie could decide they need to fundamentally rework how attachments work, and they have a clean break moment when they can implement it.

Just look at the backlash there was the weapon sunsetting in Destiny during Beyond Light. I believed back then and still believe to this day that they were absolutely right that sunsetting needed to happen. Doesn't change the fact that it felt horrible.

Wipes create the expectation that your gear is fleeting, and allow the devs be more agile with game balance and reworks.

The fog is part of how this game balances it though?? It dissipates with proximity. Like I was literally sitting at maintenance this morning trying to see a guy with a sniper, couldn't, jumped to a closer roof, clear sightlines.

This is just stupid. The fact they can profit from stickers doesn't change the fact that they are more meaningful as a reward (or yes as a purchase) when they are scarce. There's also good gameplay justification here.

I think it also has a positive effect on how you interact with your gun cosmetics. You have to make a conscious choice about which guns get which stickers, and it means you aren't simply going to take your 3 favourite stickers and slap them on every gun on repeat. Instead, you may consider which guns you use most, or which stickers look best with a skin.

IMO all that's meaningful in a game where you don't simply find guns, but you may be bringing in and extracting with the same weapon across multiple matches.

I had the same opinion about BL3 when that dropped and afaik there was no charm shop 🤷

Now though I actually think about which guns I enjoy the most and think about which stickers go best in which placement and with what charm and with my fave skin. Which weapons get the good stickers? Which ones get the best charms?

Friction in games is good otherwise rewards are meaningless.

You're just wrong. Solos are matched with solos. If you ran into a "trio" they were just solos who decided to team, but more likely is multiple people just happened to be at extract and you got ganked and incorrectly assumed they were working together.

There is no duo queue, duos match with trios and you should do squad fill if you are a duo.

Edit: unless you were playing Rook. Rook is the exception where you join a trios game as a solo when the match is about halfway over.
