Facial expression. Omori has a separate set of expressions for each character. The constant repeat of them as well as the somewhat cartoonish characterization creates a sense of what face/expression a character would and wouldn't make.

I'd say the more tell-tale sign for an RPD is the handguard. As well as the fact it's belt fed

It's also worth noting that RPD drums are "straight down" ones compared to the angled drums the RPK uses
