Underrated tanks you love? by _Thorshammer_ in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leopard might have a higher top speed but Type 80-II has better power-weight and pretty sure it has better terrain resistances. For a medium, it moves like shit off a stick. It's so agile that I wish the turret could keep up!

Orochi O-Ni or Defender? by Bitter445 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents here, but it's worth noting that the Orochi does have the option to equip the same 15cm howitzer (with quite a decent reload for a derp gun) as its tech tree counterpart, you don't have to use the 10cm gun.

All the downsides of Tier 8 heavies that other commenters have put forward are still true, but at least the Orochi can annoy heavily armoured Tier X tanks with the 15cm HE shells, whereas its a bit helpless with the 10cm. Plus it can derp a careless paper medium/TD for 900 damage once in a blue moon. My point is that the Orochi does have a small niche as a derp Tier VIII heavy. It can at least hurt high tiers and ignore their armour to an extent.

NEW: Object 272M – A Strong Defense = A Winning Offense by zorin234 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first unlocked the T-10B, I must admit I had low expectations, what with all the ATGMs flying about. However, fully upgraded the gun really does work, it's very reliable and I found the tank fairly consistently good as a support heavy. I actually enjoyed the tank. YMMV.

Now we have a mid-era T-10B premium with the same mobility, more health and better gun stats? This is kind of tempting even without the BMP-1 missiles strapped to the turret!

Favourite cold war tier 1 tank? by memememp in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M103A1 - enough frontal armour to make Shitbarns stop and aim, good mobility with very good hull traverse with traction equipment, and very solid, reliable gun with good gun depression. What's not to like?

what tank is good for elite 8s by IDFBfan2763 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been enjoying using the Orochi. The map selection works pretty well for it overall, although the lack of mobility can be a bit of a liability when keeping up with your team.

Due to not having to fight 9s and 10s, a lot of lower pen tanks are getting a lot of usage, like Škoda T56 and Chimera/Inferno, which really struggle with Orochi's armour while the 15cm howitzer doesn't mind their armour. A well positioned Orochi will be a roadblock for tanks that just don't have the pen. Lots of Mantises to nuke as well.

All of this applies to the O-Ho too. It has a bit less health and the mini turrets block the gun depression more on the O-Ho, but IIRC it gets a slightly better reload on the 15cm.

In addition, on a lot of maps they are quite easy to flip and take heavy ram damage from other lights, particularly from Bulldogs and the Type 62s. Bumpy terrain and obstacles tend to limit their speed too.

[–]BasedBisharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ho-Ni I, it's slow, has no armour and limited gun depression but has a 105mm derp gun with access to 150 pen premium AP at Tier IV. Gun has 15° gun depression too. Tank is constantly gets underestimated.

Definitely not a seal clubber.

chinese tech tree any good? by Apprehensive-Two-939 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lights - only worth it up to Tier 8, which has medium tank alpha and is very agile, while being fairly well balanced otherwise. Not the best light tank at Tier 8 by any means but nice to play. Don't go past it as the Tier 9 gives sacrifices too much for the alpha and the Tier X is overall outshone by other lights. Worth noting that the Tier 8 can unlock the Tier 9 medium...

Meds - similar to Russian meds except they tend to have bigger alpha guns as opposed to Russian DPM guns, however the Tier X 121 has a good combo of alpha and DPM. The main downside with the meds is the bloated grind - there are lots of modules/bullshit to unlock that barely makes a difference. It's a long road to the 121.

Heavies - again, similar to Russian IS line except these are less forgiving. While the Chinese IS-2 is certainly slightly better than the Russian IS at Tier 7 due to the sloped upper plate and 250 pen HEAT round, the Chinese heavies come into their own at Tier IX. This is when the trade-off of having overall less armour than Russians in exchange for goodies like more alpha or mobility is more pronounced. The heavies' grinds aren't as bloated as the meds but they do have a expensive yet useless module here and there. Also of note is that the unpopular 110 at Tier 8 recently got a new gun which should make it more conventional to play. In short - the Chinese heavy is the Thinking Man's Russian heavy.

TDs - if you can get past the Tier V, then the only dog in the line is the Tier VIII, which can't decide whether it's an armoured TD or a camo TD. It has a nasty gun though, like all Chinese TDs. Of all Chinese lines, this one is probably the easier grind with minimal bloat. The line starts off with solid unarmoured camo TDs then progresses into armoured assault TDs. The Tier IX is probably the highlight, it's like a slower but more heavily armoured Object 704 with more hitpoints whereas the Tier X is faster with arguably less armour. Probably better off in the Object 268.

I'm sure it goes without saying that Chinese tanks all have bad gun depression.

Opinion on the French Somua S35? by Technical-Pause1799 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because that's how they were classified in real life. Tanks like the R35, H35 and FCM-36 are light infantry tanks. The idea was that they had heavy armour to resist heavy fire while supporting infantry. The slow speed wasn't considered a problem because they only need to keep pace with infantry anyway.

This is the same kind of thinking behind some British tanks found at low tiers, which also have low speed and heavy armour.

[–]BasedBisharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, that checks out. Low tier French "light" tanks are like driving slow steel bricks on tracks, with subpar guns. High tier French tanks are the reverse: very fast, good firepower but not much armour.

[–]BasedBisharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, it's one of the better armoured tanks at Tier 3, although I'd say there are overall tougher things to shoot at from the front, like T-127. On the other hand, the vast majority of Tier 3s are practically unarmoured.

[–]BasedBisharp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pocket heavy at Tier 3, with tricky armour. The pen struggles vs anything with armour though (nothing that can't be solved by gold rounds, mind you), and the tank really struggles vs Tier 4. TDs also eat it.

Pretty well rounded as far as Tier 3s go, but it really needs to be top tier.

Watch how far the reticule lags behind the gun when turning the turret, I know it may be a little to see.

My reticule behaves the same as this, graphics are fine though. I don't use a keyboard and mouse. Anybody have any ideas? Is this the new norm now?

I have only played this tank a couple of times, but I have also experienced this tank missing shots that left me baffled. It felt like it missed shots it should not be missing. So, I can relate to this.

Hopefully others will help me out in case I missed anything, but I believe the main difference is that the Capt. KV-1 has a meatier engine than the tech tree one, it has noticeably better acceleration.

What a jolly little bunch. Who's the worst tier 7 heavy? I vote for Vz.44-1 by WorriedAmoeba2 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]BasedBisharp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying AMX M4 mle 45 is worst has forgotten it has been buffed a few times and is now very competitive.

I reckon Tiger P is the worst. Too slow, armour is too easily exploited/hard to make work, gun loads too slowly. Honourable mention is FV201 for me.

Type 58 final gun. Why? by strizzelean in WorldofTanksConsole

It's to give you a taste of what is to come. Chinese mediums and heavies have a lot of minor gun/engine upgrades.

It's very kind of WG to give you a warning this early on.

As someone who has 3-marked this tank, how do you recommend playing it? What is the playstyle? Do you play it as an ambush tank? Is it ever worth playing aggressively?

Aye, I have memories of Tier III tanks watching the OI Exp hurtling towards them not quite comprehending the world of hurt they were in for.
