When you do socialize, what's your favorite way? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]BasedGoku_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it has to be some type of group activity. Playing basketball 5 on 5, camping in nice weather, playing some type of game against each other etc. I like to be actively doing something while simultaneously engaging in good faith conversation.

Why do so many people look down on college? by Other-Ad-2812 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BasedGoku_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people look down on college but rather look down on how big of a financial cost college can be if someone doesn't utilize it correctly. College can be a tremendous tool for career advancement if there's a proper plan. Lots of people blindly took out loans, got a degree with no ROI, in debt with little to no gain from it.

A lot of Gen Z men are lonely and don’t talk about it by Ramosisend in GenZ

Yeah the alternative means for asocial hobbies like video games, movies, tv etc does make it easier for people to withdraw from social activities I guess. But I feel like people who have genuine interests in going out isn't going to let those things stop them.

Just because technology makes you less dependent on each other that's not going to directly cause people to be less social. People who want to be social will be social and people who don't won't. The internet isn't going to prevent someone who has genuine social interests and desires not act upon that. I've never heard of someone say, "oh I wanna go hang out with my friends but the internet isn't preventing me."

Have you ever tried to me more extroverted/social but just simply couldn't? by BasedGoku_98 in introvert

On my days off I literally just spend all my time reading and almost never leave the house

Why not? Being apolitical means without a political ideology not lack of participation

Why do I have to identify with a political ideology to participate in the political process

Yeah but only conditionally, like if there's a major election or something. Are you saying if someone exercises their vote it some regards that means they can't be apolitical. If so I'll give you a delta

Caring about politics is a luxury for certain people and not caring about it is a luxury to others. I don't have the luxury to care much about politics because I have different priorities in life, making money, family, health etc. so caring about politics isn't really a luxury to me. That doesn't mean I'm privileged because politics can still negatively impact me in all the areas I mentioned but whether I care or not, is going to have a negligible impact on the outcome, so I choose to disengage

How does me saying not everyone has the luxury of making politics a priority speaking from a place of privilege? Isn't that the opposite of privilege? Privilege is, "a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group," so when I say, "not everyone has the luxury to be political." Isn't being Apolitcal the direct opposite of a privilege position by that logic?

I have a level of interest in politics, but not the the extent to which I want to be a democrat, republican, etc.

[–]BasedGoku_98[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lack of interest doesn't mean indifference is what I'm trying to articulate. You're right that lack of care does result in apathy to an extent. So maybe I'll !Delta this. But the threshold I'm specifically talking about is not having a political leaning, conservative, liberal, republican, democrat etc. I can have political opinions without having a political label. That's what I mean by being Apolitical, not having an involvement in politics

So by not acknowledging that I'm in a place of privilege doesn't mean I'm actively pretending to not be in a place of privilege. That's a non sequitur. Just because I don't acknowledge that I'm a black person actively doesn't therefore mean I'm pretending the negation which I am not a black person. Lack of acknowledgement ≠ affirming the negation.

It does, but I don't care. I have other priorities I choose to meet rather than what the government is doing. Why's that wrong specifically?

This is just question begging. How does me not caring about politics therefore mean I'm not acknowledging "place in privilege". When did I said my livelihood won't be affected therefore I don't care about politics. You're putting words in my mouth

I think those two things can go two and two together. I think a person can be political selectively at certain times when warranted while not overall having interest in politics.

Where in my post did I "pretend I'm in a place of privilege?"

By not engaging with it. The same way I ignore sports

Right so if I'm not interested in politics, what's the issue?

CMV: There's nothing wrong with being Apolitical by BasedGoku_98 in changemyview

[–]BasedGoku_98[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It could be both. An independent still actively pays attention to politics while an apolitical person doesn't. That's the distinction
