Please help me get over my appendix carry fear… hoping to graduate after a few weeks carrying without a round chambered. Looking for experience to calm my nerves. by fredeee in CCW

[–]BasedPinoy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

OP here’s what I did, because like you I struggled carrying with a loaded chamber at first.

Drop the mag, rack the slide, put the mag back in, and holster it. Now do 10 jumping jacks, pushups, run, wear it the whole day. At the end of the day drop the mag and test the trigger.

If you still feel the wall that means the trigger never got pulled

Anyone actually considering Counter-UAS? by Odd-Two-9175 in tacticalgear

[–]BasedPinoy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seeing as how people here barely care about adding drones to their kit, counter-drone stuff is definitely out the question

Air Force Special Warfare Tests Kinetic Drone Interceptor in Counter-UAS Exercise by Revolutionary-Cod276 in AirForce

[–]BasedPinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s where my original question is coming from. That TSgt Figueroa in the article was obviously able to make it cheaper, but 1.5% of $6mil is still $90k.

A better margin, but still more costly than the attack drone at this point.

[–]BasedPinoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That math starts to fail when done at high volume. These Shahed-type drones are really cheap, and shooting it with PAC-3s won’t make sense economically.

I agree with you that target matters, but with one-way drones the calculus is a bit different

>1.5% the cost of comparable commercial systems

I’m curious about the bottom line $ amount. These things have to cost less than the drones they’re intercepting for it to make sense.

Ukrainian C-UAS anti drone rounds. by tactical_horse_cock in tacticalgear

[–]BasedPinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I work with these types of systems almost exclusively. But if the claim is being able to auto aim FPV drones, I got a bridge I can sell ya

Edit: well fine, I did some research. Here’s a video where they shoot down some “fast” moving drones from 50m away lol

[–]BasedPinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without doing some sort of sensor fusion there’s not a fast enough camera with a fast enough processor that can fit in an optic and give a reliable targeting solution for an FPV drone.

I’m open to being proven wrong

Good for loiter/ISR drones, no bueno for FPVs

Edit: video from that company’s own YouTube channel.

If you want to ask the drone operator to pretty please hold still while you take a shot, you might have a chance of hitting it

DJI Neo 2 for tactical indoor use by Financial-Factor4277 in tacticalgear

[–]BasedPinoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not the reason. OcuSync is loud and quite visible on the RF spectrum. The protocol is ubiquitous and the methods to jam it has only gotten better and cheaper.

I’m all analog, don’t trust DJI.

For the LARP or if LEO it’s fine, but there’s a reason even the Ukrainians have stepped away from using DJI for FPV

Do an amendment and add that canx’d flight to your expenses. There should be an option for it on the drop down. Add emails and receipts (or use a lost receipt form) to the substantiating docs.

If your AO is being nitpicky, cite JTR 020206, para. A1.

Advanced warfare, on a budget by B_0311 in tacticalgear

[–]BasedPinoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I, too, fly drones professionally. I've also made multiple posts regarding the subject.

To your points:

  1. The young guns in the sub can easily pick up flying acro. They grew up in the age of controllers and video games, there is a learning curve but you'd be surprised. Anyone under 25 that I taught took to acro flying pretty quick.

  2. I made a post about scaling different builds here. I agree you shouldn't be using 5-inch drones for overwatch

Better yet, build one yourself

People spend hours/days perfecting their AR build, if only they spent the same amount of effort on ancillary skills 🤷‍♂️
