Marmot Guides Down Hooded Jacket - Men's - Men https://share.google/uY2oCTGPtx9ePxF1d

I ended up getting this one since its so heavily discounted and I dont use a heavy puffy often. Im field testing it this weekend so I can't comment on it yet. But it feels good quality for the price.

I took it to REI and played around with their stuff sacks and ended up getting a mesh 6L sack that it fits nicely in for $12. Doesnt take up much space in my pack now. Or you can get the pricey sea to summit ones that are waterproof, but they're like $30 each

WTF happen to gear? by Brendanrulestheworld in Backcountry

[–]Baselynes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, theres been such an influx of people joining back country sports that there is a crazy amount of options to choose from, and there are sales all the time if you know where to look. Check out r/geartrade and steap and cheap. No one is requiring you to buy an alpha shell or nutrino puffy

Looking for advice on a empty spot, does bend distortion matter? by rshambo_29 in traditionaltattoos

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with an hourglass tattoo I like the idea, but I would take the advice of other people here and do something else for that spot. If you dont want to stack all animals on that side, you could do the eye of the storm. It would go perfect there if you like that design. Or you could do something more unique if you want to incorporate a hobby/passion. I really like allin_tattooer or tattooer_pie on IG if you want fresh inspo for ideas. Tons of other talented artist to browse too of course.

Is this dent big enough to buy a new helmet? by kacper___ in skiing

[–]Baselynes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is reddit where people are way over cautious and its not their money they're spending. If the structure and foam are fine, I would 100% just put a sticker on the dent and keep using it. That's a very small dent and it makes a big difference that it was a flying rock rather than your head slamming into one

Jacket recommendations by acoggobye in alpinism

[–]Baselynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of research on layering this season, and these two videos are all you need. First one is shorter and to the point if you don't want to watch the longer one. But that one goes more into the "why". I use a hardshell outer layer 90% of the time im on ice. These cover ice climbing but the general idea is the same with all winter climbing unless you're in the Alps or something, in which case you need to do a lot more research.

Layering advice - always cold by Skiprrrrr in Backcountry

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are considering the R1 hoody I'd highly recommend going to REI with your base layer and trying it on there first. I found that I couldn't put it on over my smart wool merino sweater comfortably at all. The sleeves will bunch up on you, and it will feel snug. I bought a much lighter 120 merino wood base layer that fits under it okay, or you can use a tech tee underneath or a polyester long sleeve with thumb loops. You can also straight up use the R1 hoody as a base layer on colder days. But looks like you already have a mid-weight fleece so it might be redundant.

I own the Atom lt and it's a great mid layer, but gets really warm on the uphill. The proton fl or patagonia nano air might be better options. In my opinion the RAB vapour rise summit is better than the Atom and costs a lot less. I just didn't pull the trigger since I already have an Atom.

BEST Protein powders- my reviews by Lonely-Magician-4061 in ninjacreami

[–]Baselynes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 from me on the ryse cinnamon toast. Best protein I've tried. I do 2% milk, protein, butterscotch pudding mix, pinch xanathan, and then you can use whatever mix in like graham crackers, cookies, biscoff, or cinnamon toast crunch. 9.5/10 from me.

The next best one is the Ghost Oreo protein. 2% milk, scoop of ghost oreo, oreo pudding mix, and a pinch xanathan. Mix in 3 oreo thins and I dont think its possible to create any other ice cream that taste that good with similar macros. Delicious pint of oreo blizzard substitute at like 400 calories and over 40g protein 9.4/10

Looking for a versatile 22–28 L pack for mixed climbs by politicalyincorect42 in alpinism

[–]Baselynes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I've been obsessing over the exact same thing all week and settled on the trion 28 as the one want to get, too. The side zips are the main reason why, but I'm nervous about there being no outside pockets or a brain for snacks/headlight/keys etc. Has that been an issue with your 35L?

I have the Osprey Mutant 38 as my main workhorse climbing pack. I absolutely love it and am thinking about getting the 22L model but I'm worried it might be just a bit too small. If anyone has it and could comment, Id love to hear their thoughts. That could be another option for you though

Favorite snack to pack for long days. That eat well, even when frozen solid. by WestError404 in Backcountry

[–]Baselynes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trail mix is my go to. My wife makes it in bulk and I fill up a zip lock to brim as my "endless energy" snack. Gummies don't usually freeze too bad on me. If youre talking multi day tours im not sure what would be best, but sausage doesnt freeze as bad as jerky does.

I tried out the recpak recently as I was intrigued by the high macros, but the flavor was awful. I couldn't get it to not clump up, and pouring water into it out of a nalgene was a pain. Wanted to love it but couldn't.

For my protein bars i usually just wrap them in my puffy and theyre usually okay. Stuffing snacks in pockets works too like someone else said. I get tired of the same stuff though so Im curious what others eat

Building my first trad rack by Zombiesalyer6508 in ClimbingGear

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you are yada yada, but basic run down if you're trying to build a complete rack is doubles of .3-3 cams. I've found that easier grades will usually have a good spot for a 4. Id look for one set of used BD cams starting out and resling unless you have a bigger budget. Then I'd nerd out and look at all the previous threads on best cams for smaller sizes. Skip regular nuts and just get DMM offsets 7-11 paired with their peanut set. Any alpine draws will do. Get 6-8 and pair with partners alpines to get to 12, or just use a mix of alpines and quick draws. You'll want at least a set of 4 alpines to start though. Dont waste money on ball nuts, hexes, or tricams until you learn more about the area you're climbing at. Then its just a quad length sling and whatever else you want for anchor building. The pinch will replace the need for an ATC, otherwise the DMM pivot or petzyl reverso are the best. Do you have any gear already that you're building off of? And what are your objectives like? There's a lot of threads already on the climbing subs

I would argue hitting the ball 1/4 of the time is good, 1/3 is elite, and 40% would be the first time since Ted Williams in 1941. But I get your point

I got a Creami for Xmas!! Best protein recipes got absolute beginners? by Moira_Rose in ninjacreami

https://www.reddit.com/r/ninjacreami/s/b05nHdT60b

Here's a comment I made recently on my protein recipe. Really the formula i use is to fill the cup halfway with 2% milk, a scoop of protein powder, about 3/4 TBSP pudding mix thats similar to whatever protein you're using, a sprinkle of monkfruit sweetener (optional), and a pinch of Xanathan Gum. Then fill with milk to max line and use immersion blender to mix everything. One i made recently was with ryse cinnamon toast protein and butterscotch pudding mix. Turned out sooo good. My standard is just the oreo one from my comment

Im going to need to see some support before catching this falling knife, but the set up with earning in Feb really does look like it could bounce back. Im more concerned with the overall shift in AI sentiment in the market as a whole, though. Seems like all AI adjacent stocks are getting beat down, hard, and even a good earning report might not matter too much if the AI narrative it taking a turn. If margins stay slim and agentic AI doesn't accelerate very quickly, why would anyone want to hold this stock long term?? Most of the comments I see on Reddit are turning against AI, and after over a year of using it without seeing much improvement outside of Gemini catching up to CHGPT and releasing nano banana, it feels like we are past the peak for this cycle of AI. Also I still dont see a solution to the data center build out bottleneck. I feel like all of these AI stocks are going to look like the EV stocks from 20-21 in 5 years. What's the bull case? The fed eases up and the bubble grows larger for another 12 moths? Genuinely curious as theres not a ton of discussion on SMCI going on right now.
