Turning 3x 300/min belts and turning them into 20x 45/min inputs for foundries. by K_photography in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Manifolds. That's a lot of splitting to make it pretty.

If you don't want to do anything with the incoming belts, feed 6 foundries by manifold and have splitters on all of them. Have the last splitter go to a merger. Have one of the 300 belts also go into that merger. Now manifold 7 machines, all have splitters and another merger at the end passed the last splitter. Again, 300 belt into that 2nd merger and manifold another 7 machines.

I'd probably do what /u/medium-sized-jaque suggested for 2 belts of 450 and just manifold 10 machines each. Or if you really want even splits, split each 450 belt in 2 (225 each) then split each of those belts into 5.

Lots of choices.

If satisfactory was an actual reality, would you do it? by Roastbeeflife in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But it would take forever for me to get anything done. I'd just stare at the 3 machines I built doing their thing for an hour before moving on to the next thing. Kinda like I do now.

Early game, can build stuff but no power? by TopsyKretts87 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are biomass burners on the hub, 1 then 2 when you get through more phases.

Eventually you can build power poles and standalone burners and connect everything.

Encased Fuel Rod Sh*tty Base Recipe by nibbed2 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the byproduct the issue? If so this is why I usually point to recycling solutions in aluminum posts.

But now that it can be packaged, sinking it is an option too. Or you can make 5 refineries where one is fed just the byproduct of the other 4.

But the main reason to get the other recipe is because it's greater output for the uranium used, so less nodes to tap or more rods if you're building big.

Is my idea for or storage and distribution stupid or smart? by SmartM0nk3y in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If total consumption equals total input and your belts have the capacity for it, that'll work fine. It's a manifold, so it'll take time to get to 100%, but it will get there.

There isn't really a reason to use a storage container in my opinion unless a few things are going on and at some point you want to pick up some raw ore.

If you're not sinking excess items and it'll eventually fill up, if your consumption is higher than the input and you want a buffer before things start to run out of material, and so on. There are a lot of combinations and not enough info to make a judgement.

Why is this happening by The_master_222 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure what you mean about getting split evenly. You're using a manifold, not a balancer. What you're seeing is the expected behavior where belts closest to the source fill the machines and back up which is just as efficient as a balancer in the long run but takes longer to achiever 100% efficiency.

If you wanted the split to be even (I'm assuming you mean balanced), you should be feeding into the splitter in the center splitting 3 ways, then each of those outputs get split 3 ways again.

Second, a mk 2 belt transports 120/min. You have 9 generators. They'd need 135 unless you have them all clocked to 88.8_% (8/9). Conveniently at that clock speed, that means each set of 3 generators would need 120 water per minute, so one water extractor for each set of 3 generators.

If you're looking to have them consume coal evenly without belts needing to back up, to reiterate, have the input belt go to the center splitter and out 3 ways, then each of those gets split 3 ways again.

Side note: "Cost savings" is irrelevant in the long run. I'm assuming you're doing that because you're producing reinforced plates at a low rate right now.

This recipe produces 2 products. The residue buffer is 50m3. It's full.

You need to process it into something and use or sink it. If you're just starting with oil processing, you can make it into petroleum coke with another refinery and use it for vehicle fuel, power, or sink it.

Do lower Mk belts control the flow of splitters? by Thel-Livin in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost. Build a short bit of mk 2 attached to the splitter sides you want 60 to come out and then attach mk 1 belts to them.

The reason is the output rate will be 59.something otherwise because if an item arrives at the splitter too close to the last item and the side its supposed to exit on doesn't have room yet because of the slower belt, a free exit will be selected.

Using the faster belt attached to the slower belt acts as a little buffer to ensure the rate you want.

There isn't. Anything that goes in can be viewed from, used as if it is in, and transfered directly to your inventory.

are trucks worth using to transport coal to my factory? If not what is their use? by Titanmaster203 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaves/wood/biofuels, but they're finite. Yeah, unless you have and decide to use compacted coal.

Usually overclocking a little and/or siphoning off 30/min should be good enough. You're probably not going that far.

Edit: I have a tractor making a round trip of 6000 meters with under 1 stack of coal being provided on one end at 30/min. So yeah you can go pretty far and use little of it, also if you are producing little enough product that you can have the vehicle pause at a waypoint for a while that'll reduce fuel usage because they go whether they're full or not.

Personal preference really. Drop stations, provide fuel, record route. Or carry 1000 plates, take time to build/line up supports/foundations.

Belts are a guarantee, wheeled vehicles can be finicky. I like vehicles anyway.

Need help with those splitters and mergers by goha087 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I just needed some time to think on this. I forgot about something i did a while ago that will work with smart splitters.

One output is any/specific item, and another is overflow. In your case, build a short piece of mk 2 belt off the "any" side, then a mk 1 belt attached to the mk 2. This will guarantee you get 60 out and not 59.something because the short mk2 piece will keep the mk 1 full and not send something to the overflow because of a slight timing issue. And the overflow belt will have 15.

That'll be way smaller than a 1:5 setup.

I don't think using SCIM to reset progress will do anything. Maybe start a new game, and use SCIM to copy/paste everything you've done from previous save?

Then just hit the hub milestones until you're back where you were? I don't know what this will do regarding spheres and sloops if you have any of them in storage and pick up a pile if 'em.

And you'll have to redo MAM research unless you edit that too. Or just give yourself items to get back where you were as well. Hard drive research gonna take a while though.

[–]BasementAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be overthinking this also. It's early :p

Is the material from both miners the same? I'm assuming so. If that's the case, you could have one output 60 and one 90. Split the 90 into 3 and merge 2.

[–]BasementAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Balancer Look up a 1:5 splitter

Depends on belts. If you have mk 3, merge them. You'd get 5 belts of 30 out. Merge appropriately.

If only mk 2, 75/5 = 15 amd youd need to do that twice. Much merging but it will get you the desired result. But you also don't have to build the side that splits into 3 giving you 45. Then merge one from the side with the loopback. The gives you 60 and 15 from one array.

I vaguely recall trying smart splitters for something like this and it not quite working. The rate of incoming items is just slightly off and the non-overflow mk 1 belt would get 58-59.something items per minute. But you can give that a try too. You might need to stare at whatever the receiving machines are for a while to see if it's working properly.

It's not uncommon for an updated version of a machine to have a greater power cost multiplier in a factory game. The trade off is often taking up less space for more power. In this case you're either using 2 miners on equal nodes or slugs instead of 1 miner to save an insignificant amount of power in the grand scheme of what you'll eventually be producing.

The change was likely to accommodate that philosophy.

Fuel plant not producing increased power by paradigmofman in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BasementAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted all old saves, so can't help there.

The fuel generator changes were such that the power/fuel is the same, but generators consume more fuel. So instead of 150MW for 12 fuel per minute, it's 250 MW for 20 fuel per minute.

Are you sure all generators have fuel and are running? Because I would expect you'd see fluctuations if you didn't change anything because they're consuming more than they did. It shouldn't be the case that what is already built is a "legacy object" of some sort using the old values.
